W artykule opisano problemy osób starszych z niepełnosprawnościami oraz wyzwania architektoniczne w przestrzeni miejskiej, ponieważ demografowie ostrzegają, że w 2020 roku zwiększy się znacząco populacja ludzi starszych, w tym z niepełnosprawnością. Niepełnosprawność może być czasowa lub trwała; wrodzona lub nabyta. Zadaniem architekta jest ergonomiczne kształtowanie otaczającej człowieka przestrzeni w różnych skalach - od architektonicznej do urbanistycznej. Instytucje administracji rządowej i samorządowej zajmują się pomocą osobom z niepełnosprawnościami i starszym. Domy Pomocy Społecznej (DPS) świadczą usługi w zakresie potrzeb bytowych, zapewniając miejsce zamieszkania, wyżywienie, odzież i obuwie, utrzymanie czystości, opiekuńcze. Należy umożliwić pobyt we własnym mieszkaniu osobie starszej i z niepełnosprawnością do czasu, kiedy jest to możliwe. Pobyt w DPS-ie czasami źle wpływa na komfort psychiczny mieszkańca.

The article describes the problems of elderly disabled people and the architectural challenges in the urban space, because demographers warn that in 2020 the population of older people, including those with disabilities, will increase significantly. Disability can be temporary or permanent; congenital or acquired. The architect’s task is to ergonomically shape the surrounding space on various scales - from architectural to urban. Government and self-government administration institutions provide assistance to people with disabilities and the elderly. Dom Pomocy Społecznej / DPS / provide services in the area of living needs, providing housing, food, clothing and footwear, maintaining cleanliness, caring. Elements of building a social welfare home and applicable standards. An elderly and disabled person should be allowed to stay in his own apartment until it is possible. A stay in a nursing home sometimes has a negative effect on the psychological comfort of a resident.

On the nature of risk and risk management in social welfare homes as public providers of social services in Poland

The aim of the paper is to address the issues of risk and risk management in social welfare homes as public organisations providing social services. The discussions presented in the paper refer to entities that operate in Poland. Risk management in public welfare facilities may be supported using organisation management processes. An important role here is played by methodology and the familiarity with the way a risk management process is conducted. The paper is theoretical and conceptual in its character. Its contents form part of a novel approach to management, i.e. NPM (New Public Management). It uses the fundamentals of deductive thinking, as well as a method of synthesis. A research technique employed by the author is participant observation, based on the example of a specific social welfare home. The publication also contains a review of literature on the subject.

Adaptacja osób starszych do środowiska domu pomocy społecznej – przyczynek do analizy wybranych aspektów psychospołecznych

Artykuł pokazuje adaptację do pobytu w domu pomocy społecznej (dps) jako zjawisko indywidualne, którego tłem są w dużej mierze dotychczasowe doświadczenia życiowe seniorów. Badania przeprowadzono techniką wywiadu narracyjnego z mieszkańcami jednego z dps-ów w Zabrzu. W ich rezultacie zarysowano szczegółowe problemy dla dalszych badań, których celem powinno być m.in. stworzenie i przetestowanie koncepcji domu spokojnej starości dla mniejszej niż dotąd liczby osób, która w jak największym stopniu uwzględni indywidualne potrzeby seniorów.

The article shows the adaptation to the stay in a nursing home as an individual phenomena, for which earlier life experience is the very important context. The narrative interviews has been conducted among chosen residents of one of the nursing homes in Zabrze. This resulted in the outline of some problems for further research, that should be aimed at the creation and testing of an idea of a nursing home for smaller groups of residents, in which the very individual needs of seniors will be included.
