Evaluation of design maturity models for usability in the it industry

Purpose: The ability of an enterprise to execute projects, using the tools appropriate to do so, is called project maturity. On the other hand, at a higher level of detail, it is seen as the appropriate selection of a portfolio of projects, in such a way that the implementation of given projects is directed to support the goals and strategies of the enterprise, as well as the ability to apply appropriate project management tools and techniques. Accelerating changes in the company's environment, cause them to be forced to implement project management, in order to increase flexibility and standardization, so that activities become more professional. In sum, this translates into better financial health of the enterprise, a better position among competitors and, what is related to this, gaining new markets for their products and services. Project maturity models provide a starting point for conducting an analysis of the current state of the enterprise and indicate the direction or directions in which the enterprise should develop. The purpose of this article is to present the results of a usability analysis of project maturity models for an IT enterprise. The following models are presented in it: PMMM (The Kerzner Project Management Maturity Model) - developed by H. Kerzner; P3M3 (Portfolio, Program and Project Management Maturity Model) - developed by the Office of Government Commerce; OPM3 (Organizational Project Management Maturity Model) - developed by the Project Management Institute; P2MM (PRINCE2 Maturity Model) - developed by the Office of Government Commerce. The essence of project maturity, the project approach and its operation and improvement in management systems is also discussed. Design/methodology/approach: The article is exploratory in nature, and the primary research was conducted using the expert interview method. Research limitations/implications: Future research should focus on further analysis of both design and process maturity models. Practical implications: The research discussed in this article can contribute to further empirical research, including, among other things, the initiation of work on the development of a project maturity model aimed at the IT industry. Social implications: The practical implications of the research involve the possibility of using IT to improve existing maturity models and practical implementation in IT companies. Originality/value: The main value of the article is the analysis of models past IT practitioners, and the overview presented is based on existing and used maturity models.

Przedmiotem badań opisanych w niniejszym opracowaniu są działania restrukturalizacyjne implikujące dojrzałość przedsiębiorstw w domenie zarządzania zmianami. Zasadniczym celem pracy jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie o poziom – zarysowanych przez ekspertów dziedzinowych – predylekcji do zmian stanowiących o dojrzałości przedsiębiorstw wytwórczych z sektora maszyn rolniczych. Osiągnięcie celu głównego wymagało sformułowania i realizacji celów cząstkowych, do których autorzy zaliczyli: C(1) – zaakcentowanie meritum aksjomatu inklinacji do zmian; C(2) – z wykorzystaniem metody rekonstrukcji i interpretacji literatury przedmiotu – nominowanie obszarów restrukturalizacji determinujących dojrzałość w domenie zarządzania zmianami; C(3) – skompilowanie modelu badawczego w postaci arkusza oceny będącego wypadkową eksploracji piśmiennictwa oraz badania wykonanego wśród celowo dobranych ekspertów dziedzinowych; C(4) – rozpoznanie poziomu w postrzeganiu i konkretyzacji wybranych indykatorów dojrzałości w zarządzaniu zmianami; ewaluacja wśród ekspertów reprezentujących producentów maszyn rolniczych (ustrukturyzowane podejście eksperckie).

The research subject of this study involves restructuring activities implying the maturity of companies in the change management domain. The main purpose of the paper was to attempt to answer the question about the predilection – outlined by domain experts – for changes determining the maturity of manufacturing companies of the agricultural machinery sector. The achievement of the main objective required formulation and implementation of partial objectives, which, according to the authors, include: C(1) – emphasis on the merits of the axiom of inclination to changes; C(2) – through the reconstruction and interpretation of the subject literature – nomination of restructuring areas determining maturity in the change management domain; C(3) – compilation of the research model (in the form of an assessment sheet), resulting from literature studies and research implemented among deliberately selected domain experts; C(4) – recognition of the level of perception and specification of the selected maturity indicators in change management; evaluation of experts representing manufacturers of agricultural machinery (structured expert approach).

The right tool management is one of the ways to reduce production costs. in the context of the above, research was undertaken, the main purpose of which was to recognize the level of maturity of manufacturing enterprises in the area of effective implementation of the warehouse management subsystem. With reference to the objective outlined in this way, it was recommended as a necessary action; on the theoretical level - to apply the method of reconstruction and interpretation of the literature related to this subject - to nominate questions assessing the level of maturity of the warehouse management system; on a project level - to compile a research tool in the form of an evaluation sheet constituting the resultant literature exploration and discussion among intentionally selected professionals; on an empirical level - to conduct investigation (indication) among manufacturers of the agricultural machinery sector (method verification in practice).

In the paper, an attempt was made to answer the following question: what is the maturity level of the Polish companies operating in the agricultural machinery sector within the area of the implementation of quality management principles, methods and tools? In reference to such an outlined purpose, as necessary activities, it was recommended: at the theoretical level – using the reconstruction and interpretation method of the subject literature – to nominate the questions giving opinions on the maturity level in the sphere of the effective implementation of quality management principles, methods and tools; at the design level – to compile a research tool in the form of an assessment sheet that constitutes a result of the literature exploration and discussion among deliberately chosen experts; and at the empirical level – questioning among manufacturers of parts, components and finished agricultural machinery.

W pracy podjęto próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie: jaki jest poziom dojrzałości polskich przedsiębiorstw działających w sektorze maszyn rolniczych w obszarze implementacji zasad, metod i narzędzi zarządzania jakością? W nawiązaniu do tak nakreślonego celu jako działania niezbędne zarekomendowano: na płaszczyźnie teoretycznej – wykorzystując metodę rekonstrukcji i interpretacji literatury przedmiotu – wytypowanie pytań opiniujących poziom dojrzałości w sferze skutecznej implementacji zasad, metod i narzędzi zarządzania jakością; na płaszczyźnie projektowej – skompilowanie narzędzia badawczego w postaci arkusza oceny będącego wypadkową eksploracji piśmiennictwa oraz dyskusji wśród celowo dobranych ekspertów; na płaszczyźnie empirycznej – indagacja wśród producentów części, podzespołów i gotowych maszyn rolniczych.
