Multi-criteria analysis and expert assessment of vehicles with different drive types regarding their functionality and environmental impact

It is not easy to choose a car depending on the type of engine used in it. This is due to the diversity of properties characterising certain types of cars and doubts concerning the costs incurred during their operation (especially for new types as electric cars). Thus, this article presents a comparative analysis of cars provided with different energy sources. The analysis will allow finding the answer, which of the analysed car types best meet expectations, since both electric motor-driven vehicles and combustion engine-driven vehicles have a number of disadvantages and advantages. All compared vehicles are of the same model of a single make, with different drive sources and drive systems, classified in the same market segment. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to demonstrate, which vehicle type (that is, a car with spark-ignition engine, compression-ignition engine, electric motor, or Plug-In type hybrid drive) is currently the most optimal regarding technology, economy, and environment. For this purpose, the MAJA multi-criteria assessment method which has never before been used in comparisons of this sort was chosen.

Zagadnienie doboru pojazdów, optymalizacji wielkości zamówień, czy też optymalizacji kosztów logistycznych jest szeroko ujmowane w literaturze krajowej i zagranicznej. W wielu publikacjach zwraca się uwagę na konieczność podejmowania decyzji w transporcie, czy też w innych obszarach z punktu widzenia całkowitych kosztów logistycznych. Tym nie mniej brak jest ujęcia problematyki wpływu doboru pojazdów na Ekonomiczną Wielkość Zamówień (EOQ), przy pełnym ujęciu kosztów transportu. W artykule przedstawiono model decyzyjny doboru środków przewozowych ze względu na całkowite koszty logistyczne. Wyprowadzono również nową formułę na ekonomiczną wielkość zamówień dla sytuacji, w której koszty transportu dzielone są na koszty stałe, koszty zmienne zależne od przebiegu i od czasu pracy oraz pozostałe koszty zmienne. Znaczenie kompleksowego ujmowania wpływu decyzji dotyczących doboru pojazdów na koszty logistyczne przedstawiono na przykładach.

A problem of vehicle selection, optimization of order quantity and also optimization of logistics costs are widely discussed in domestic and foreign literature. The necessity of decision making in transport, as well as in other areas from the perspective of total logistics costs is the focus of many publications. Nevertheless, the effects of vehicle selection on Economic Order Quantity taking into account total transport costs are not considered. The mathematical model of vehicle selection, taking into account the total logistics costs, is presented in this article. A new formula for Economic Order Quantity is also introduced. The formula is used when transport costs are divided into fixed costs, variable costs dependent on distance travelled and time, and other variable costs. The importance of a comprehensive recognition of the impact of decisions regarding vehicles selection for logistical costs is shown in the examples.

The matter of vehicle selection, optimizing the order quantity or optimizing logistics costs is extensively discussed in both Polish and foreign literature. In numerous publications, the necessity of decision making in transport or in other related areas with respect to total logistics costs is addressed. Nevertheless, problems arising from the effect of vehicle selection on Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), while fully taking into account transport costs, fails to be mentioned. This paper presents a decision-making model for transport selection taking into consideration total logistics costs and a newly obtained formula for the economic order quantity which separates transport costs into fixed costs, variable costs dependent on the driving distance and operation time, as well as other variable costs. Analyses pertaining to the impact of cargo value and volumetric weight on vehicle selection and on Economic Order Quantity are also conducted.
