The modern open-air museum needs a new attitude to itself and new approaches to its exhibition design that combines the historicity, authenticity, and veracity of monuments with modern requirements, methods, and means of the exhibition, meets the visitor requirements and makes the museum unique and viable. The article aims to determine general principles and identify effective approaches to the formation of open-air exhibitions in both Ukrainian and foreign museums.

This paper presents draft guidelines on the display of navigation-related information received by communications equipment elaborated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) [3]. It aims mainly to ensure that information is displayed in an efficient, reliable and consistent format, in a manner that is easily and accurately interpreted to support decision-making process. These guidelines supplement resolution MSC.191(79) Performance standards for the presentation of navigation-related information on shipborne navigational displays [7] in regard to the presentation of navigation information received via communication equipment. The use of these guidelines will ensure that navigation information received via communications equipment is displayed in a harmonized manner on the ships’ navigational bridge. The availability of electronic data that enhances the safe and efficient navigation of ships necessitates that shipborne systems capable of presenting this information to the user should do so in a harmonized and readily assimilated way.

W artykule zaprezentowano badania wybranych urządzeń przenośnych z ekranami w technologii LCD i OLED pod względem analizy rozkładu widmowego i parametrów kolorymetrycznych w funkcji kąta obserwacji ekranu. Analiza uzyskanych wyników pozwoli ocenić, czy tego typu urządzenia można zastosować do opracowania nowoczesnych opraw oświetlenia awaryjnego o zmiennej treści.

Nowadays devices with LCD or OLED displays are becoming more common. Smartphones, tablets, notebooks, TVs, kiosks utilize a dynamic presentation of content through the screens using the technology of organic diodes or liquid crystal. Regardless of the technology, it is important that the device correctly presented color content, independently of the observation of screen. The paper presents a study of selected mobile devices with screens in the LCD and OLED technology in terms of the analysis of the spectral distribution and colorimetric parameters as a function of angle of observation of the screen. Analysis of the results will allow assessing whether this type of device can be used to develop a modern emergency lighting with variable content.

Modern medical devices are very complex, they must show many different kind of information, from ordinary digital values to sophisticated graphical data. Medical devices have to do it in an understandable way to avoid dangerous mistakes. There are several different ways to present the information. The most appropriate is to use display, in this case the best choice would be the color graphical display. Such kind of display allows many different data to be presented clearly and makes possibilities to create an very intuitive user friendly interface, avoiding misinformation. In portable devices this kind of data presentation is great advantage but we need to take under consideration low power consumption. Additionally, in medical portable devices very important aspects are power source operation time prediction possibility and power consumption stability. To achieve this we need to use displays which have well defined power characteristics, because in portable applications, color displays are often most power consuming parts.

In display technology, pixels are composed of three primary colors: red, green, and blue (RGB). Using the primary colors provides the ability to generate variety of hues including white. This concept is applied in light emitting diode (LED) displays where each pixel consists of RGB LEDs. Although using compact RGB light in LED displays provides a wide color gamut, many issues arise due to dissimilarities in optical and physical characteristics of LEDs such as: uniform spatial light mixing, distribution of achromatic point (AP), and thermal management. Power consumption is also a major concern in LED displays. In this paper, the issues with current RGB pixel architecture such as non-uniform mixing and distribution of AP, energy efficiency and a solution to these issues by introducing a new pixel configuration consisting of red, green, blue and white (RGBW) are discussed. Power measurements for an 8 × 8 pixel LED display has demonstrated up to 49% power savings for gray scale, over 30% power savings for low saturated colors, and up to 12% for high saturated colors using RGBW as an alternative. Experimental results as well as theoretical analysis of the new configuration are presented and discussed.

As an active substance of liquid crystal displays we use the nematic-cholesteric mixtures. We propose the new constructive decision to solve such problems as: the low contrast level and narrow angle of view. The mathematical model of laser radiation scattering in nematic-cholesteric mixtures is calculated.

Antiferroelectric liquid crystals have been applied to high-end multiplexed displays. The interest on these materials chiefly comes up from their capability of being multiplex addressed with no need of active matrices. Antiferroelectric grey levels arise from a double symmetric hysteresis loop that can be stabilized by a constant holding voltage. Driving schemes are compatible with passive multiplexing, but limitations appear when the multiplexing rate increases. To avoid these limitations, new driving schemes for high multiplexing level at video rate have been designed. The problem of accumulated voltage on bias level arising from data voltages is tackled as well.

In the last few years, the unique features of antiferroelectric liquid crystals (AFLCs) have been explored to develop high-end displays. A number of passive- and active-matrix prototypes have been presented. However, although their use in a number of application areas has been suggested, no commercial products have been announced yet. This work reviews the state of the art of AFLC displays, the reasons for their present low incidence in display markets, and the latest developments aiming to overcome the main shortcomings that hinder their development. V-shape smectic displays are also included in this study. Although not considered strictly antiferroelectrics nowadays, V-shape materials behaviour and scope are similar to traditional AFLCs.

Polymeric optical fibre (POF) is used for simple light guide and illumination applications. The polymer optical fibre materials can be utilised in flexible lighting elements which can be combined with textile structures. The POF woven fabrics are introduced as a flexible alternative to lighting elements. Various light-emitting woven fabric and light emission theories has been discussed. Simple poly-methyl-metacrylate PMMA and polycarbonate PC fibres have been produced experimentally through single-screw and conical extrusion. The fibre is integrated in woven structures by means of handloom, narrow fabric weaving and Jacquard technology. The manufacturing technology suitable for light- emitting textile applications and its opportunities in textile integration is discussed.
