The purpose of the research was to examine the influence of boron on the selected properties of low-alloy cast steels. The chemical compositions of the cast steels were designed especially for this study to contain different alloy elements. The first composition lacked significant alloying elements. The subsequent grades of cast steels had the addition of chrome, chrome with vanadium, and chrome with titanium. It was decided to investigate the influence of boron in the presence of such alloying additives on the temperature of phase transformations. On the basis of dilatometric curves, the characteristic temperatures of the phase transformations were determined. Additionally, to assess the influence of the cooling rate on the structure of cast steels, an analysis of their microstructure, after full annealing and quenching, was carried out.

In the research, relationships between matrix structure and hardness of high-quality Ni-Mn-Cu cast iron containing nodular graphite and nickel equivalent value were determined. Nickel equivalent values were dependent on chemical composition and differences between them resulted mostly from nickel concentration in individual alloys. Chemical compositions of the alloys were selected to obtain, in raw condition, austenitic and austenitic-martensitic cast iron. Next, stability of matrix of raw castings was determined by dilatometric tests. The results made it possible to determine influence of nickel equivalent on martensite transformation start and finish temperatures.

W artykule omówiono wyniki badań, których celem była ocena stabilności austenitu szczątkowego w stali NC11LV (X153CrMoV12) o pseudodwufazowej strukturze; zwłaszcza zawierającej węgliki, austenit szczątkowy i martenzyt śladowej ilości. Udział austenitu szczątkowego określono metodą dylatometryczną. Badania wykazały, że zakres przemiany austenitu przy chłodzeniu próbek z temperatury 900 oC, stali zahartowanej wstępnie z wyższej temperatury (1150 oC), znajduje się w niższej temperaturze. Ponadto badania z wytrzymywaniem izotermicznym próbek w temperaturze 600 oC wykazały, że austenit jest bardziej trwały, w porównaniu z austenitem próbek zahartowanych wstępnie z temperatury 1020 oC.

The aim of the research was denomination the stability of the austenite in pseudodublephase structure of the NC11LV (X153CrMoV12) steel; especially contains the rest austenite, carbide and martensite in a very little amount. The amount of the austenite has determined by dilatometric method. The research show, that the scope of the austenite transformation during cooling from 900 oC temperature, of the specimen initial hardening from 1150 oC, lies in the lower temperature, besides - it observed during heating at 600 oC - is very stable, to compare to the rest austenite of the specimen hardened initially from lower temperature (1020 oC).
