In the article, the author discusses problems that universities will face in the future if they do not take up the challenges and fail to start preventing threats associated with the development of technology. The future for universities entails further development of digital technology and the expansion of artificial intelligence. Therefore, it is necessary to move away from stereotypes and at least try to apply new teaching methods employing to the extent possible synchronous and asynchronous methods. In view of the above, the author adopted the following research problem: What challenges and threats await higher education in the era of modern digitization? The aim of the article is to identify and analyze the changing conditions in the context of shaping the security environment in higher education, determining appropriate needs and values that, without proper diagnosis, may cause a development or an educational crisis. Theoretical methods such as analysis, synthesis, inference and analysis of existing data were used to solve the research problem, mainly on the basis of data from the Statistics Poland and an international survey conducted by Alessia Paccagnini from the University College Dublin. Preliminary results of the study have shown that in some sciences, synchronous and asynchronous teaching methods will be the leading ones, which will make it possible for us to educate students of all ages. The author, based on an analysis of existing data, points out to universities that if they do not start cooperation at the interdepartmental and intersectoral level, the private sector may take the initiative and gain a leading role in digital education.
