Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie bibliotek cyfrowych łączonych z miastem Łódź i województwem łódzkim, które zaistniały jako oferta cyfrowego dostępu do treści zbiorów zgromadzonych w bibliotekach zlokalizowanych na danym terenie. Opracowanie ma charakter badawczy. Głównym źródłem wiedzy okazały się same biblioteki cyfrowe, które poddano celowej obserwacji i analizie. Nawiązania i odwołania do literatury przedmiotu służą temu, aby lepiej zrozumieć złożoność wybranej poruszonej w tym tekście problematyki dostępu do treści za pośrednictwem biblioteki cyfrowej. W Łódzkiem rozwijają swoją działalność cztery biblioteki cyfrowe, każda z nich występuje pod nazwą własną. Pod uwagę wzięto następujące aspekty: przynależność instytucjonalna wykonawców projektów biblioteki cyfrowej, kwestie finansowania, zasoby, wybrane kwestie dotyczące metainformacji o zasobach, rekomendacje bibliotek cyfrowych. Artykuł jest pierwszą próbą opisu w sposób syntetyczny bibliotek cyfrowych w Łódzkiem, których historia w 2018 r. liczy trzynaście lat.

The aim of the article is to present digital libraries connected with the city of Łódź and the Łódź Voivodeship, which came into existence as an offer of digital access to the content of collections gathered in libraries located in a given area. The study is of research nature. The main source of knowledge turned out to be digital libraries themselves, which were subject to intentional observation and analysis. References to the literature of the subject are used to better understand the complexity of the selected issues of access to content through the digital library. Four digital libraries develop their activity in the Łódź voivodship, each of them under its own name. The following aspects were taken into account: institutional affiliation of digital library project contractors, financing issues, resources, meta information about resources, digital library recommendations. The article is the first attempt to describe in a synthetic way digital libraries in Lodz, whose history in 2018 is thirteen years old.

Artykuł przedstawia krótką historię piśmiennictwa z dziedziny elektrotechniki. Po 1918 r. obserwuje się wzrost liczby publikacji, a wraz z rozwojem nauki zwiększa się obszar tematyczny literatury fachowej. Ogromną zasługę w tym rozwoju miało Stowarzyszenie Elektryków Polskich. W artykule pokazano sposoby wyszukiwania wydawnictw przedwojennych SEP, ich dostępność w bibliotekach, także cyfrowych. Przedstawia w jaki sposób zwiększyć powszechny otwarty dostęp do spuścizny naukowej i wydawniczej SEP.

The article presents a brief history of electric engineering. After 1918, there is an increase in the number of publication, and with the development of science the subject area of professional literature increases. Great achievement in this development was the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers (SEP). The article shows how to search for pre-war SEP publication, their availability in libraries, also digital libraries. Presents a way to increase the universal open access to scientific and publishing heritage of SEP.

W artykule przedstawiono wnioski z analiz scenariuszy możliwego rozwoju bibliotek cyfro- wych oraz tezy odnoszące się do ich przyszłości. Ustalono, iż w świadomości społecznej bar- dzo różnie egzystuje termin biblioteki cyfrowe. Postawiono tezy: 1) biblioteki cyfrowe będą się różnicować, 2) trudno będzie zdigitalizować ‘wszystko’, cały dorobek ludzkości, 3) dla pewnej części historycznych obiektów dobrze by było udostępnić użytkownikom: kopie rzeczywistego dokumentu oraz jego ‘modelowy obraz – także dla zaprezentowania procesu konserwacji, zmian, jakie dokonują się w czasie na zbiorach, 4) powstaną nowe funkcjonalności systemów oraz będzie dopracowywana ich estetyka np. dla nowych urządzeń, programów itp., 5) trzeba przeprowadzić więcej badań użytkowników – zwłaszcza przy użyciu technik takich, jak: wy- wiady indywidualne i grupowe, obserwacje i eksperymenty.

Thesis: 1) digital libraries will differentiate, 2) we could not digitize 'everything', the heritage of humanity, 3) many historic objects should have: a copy of the actual document and a model/ideal, for example for the presentation of a preservation process, 4) we will produce new functional systems, 5) we need to research more users (espe- cially using techniques: individual and group interviews, observations and experiments).

dLibra is a software package for building complex and highly interoperable digital libraries, which has been developed by Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center since 1999. The increasing number of dLibra end-users and increasing variety of institutions exploiting dLibra is a source of new needs and challenges. One of such challenges comes from the differences in the type and complexity of digital heritage objects published on-line by institutions coming from different domains. In the ideal situation each of the types of objects should have a dedicated user interface, but on the other hand, as far as digital objects are concerned, the issues related with storage and management can be performed by one adequately unified system. In this paper we present the issues related with the development of digital libraries containing digital heritage objects coming from different domains and the solutions that we propose in the context of the dLibra software.

dLibra to pakiet oprogramowania przeznaczony to tworzenia złożonych i wysoce interoperacyjnych bibliotek cyfrowych rozwijany przez Poznańskie Centrum Superkomputerowo-Sieciowe od 1999 roku. Wzrastająca liczba użytkowników systemu oraz rosnąca różnorodność instytucji wykorzystujących dLibrę stała się źródłem nowych potrzeb i wyzwań. Jedno z takich wyzwań związane jest z różnicami pomiędzy obiektami dziedzictwa kulturowego, publikowanymi przez instytucje pochodzące z różnych domen. Idealnym rozwiązaniem jest tu opracowanie dedykowanego interfejsu użytkownika dla każdego typu obiektów. Z drugiej strony, analizując obiekty cyfrowe na pewnym poziomie abstrakcji, zadania związane z ich przechowywaniem i zarządzaniem mogą być realizowane przez jeden odpowiednio zunifikowany system. W niniejszym artykule prezentujemy kwestie związane z rozwojem bibliotek cyfrowych zawierających obiekty dziedzictwa kulturowego pochodzące z różnych domen i rozwiązania, które zostały w tym obszarze wypracowane w oprogramowaniu dLibra.

In March 2010 the Digital Library of the Wielkopolska Region, the largest and one of the oldest Polish digital libraries reached the level of 100 000 objects available on-line. Since its inauguration in 2002, the dynamics of the development of Polish digital libraries has increased significantly. The common effort of several hundreds of scientific and cultural institutions in Poland led to the present situation in which there are over 50 publicly available digital libraries and together they give access to around 425 000 digital objects. Such a big number of similar network services lead to the need of integration mechanisms allowing to achieve a synergy effect perceptible for end users as well as for digital library creators and international digital library initiatives. Such mechanism developed by PSNC and named PIONIER Network Digital Libraries Federation, has been available as a network service since June 22-nd, 2007 and can be reached at http://fbc.pionier.net.pl/. This paper shortly presents the history of development of Polish digital libraries, showing the factors that have influenced the initial form and advancement of the Federation. It also describes the Federation architecture, organizational aspects of its operation, and key challenges including the integration of Polish and European digital libraries infrastructures.

Over the recent years numerous digital libraries have been deployed and enabled in the Internet with the use of various digital library frameworks. They contain valuable digital resources use of which is important to a large community of users, especially within the scientific and educational communities. The access to distributed digital resources has been a subject of research for a few years now. In this paper we present our own work in this area, discussing our approach at the distributed digital library platform that is widely used within the PIONIER optical network. We present the methodology for building distributed search and access to digital publications that allowed to create a national federation of digital libraries and that is now under investigation for possible use within various application fields including medicine, science and education.
