Filtr cząstek stałych stosowany w samochodach osobowych z silnikiem Diesla ma za zadanie oczyszczać gazy spalinowe z zanieczyszczeń i cząstek sadzy. Filtry cząstek stałych są montowane we wszystkich nowych samochodach, by spełnić normę EURO 5. Gromadzące się w filtrze cząstki stałe powodują jego stopniowe zapychanie i utratę wydajności silnika.. Czy można skutecznie oczyścić filtr w trakcie eksploatacji, czy też jedyną alternatywą jest jego wymiana? Czy samochody osobowe z silnikiem Diesla i filtrem cząstek stałych nadają się do eksploatacji w ruchu miejskim? Na powyższe pytania odpowiedziano w niniejszym artykule.

Diesel particulate filters assembled into exhaust systems of cars with diesel engines are supposed to clean exhaust gases from the particulate. All new cars are fitted with diesel particulate filters according to the EURO 5 norm. The problem is that exhaust soot is accumulated in the filter and gradually clogs it up, which impairs the overall engine performance. Can a diesel particulate filter be cleaned after a time or the only alternative is its replacement? Are cars equipped with diesel engines and diesel particulate filters suitable for driving in the city traffic? The answer to the above questions has been given in the publication.

The reduction of platinum (Pt) loadings in the catalytic bed constitutes a primary means of reducing cost to the levels required for mass- produced vehicles. We have produced and tested, on the laboratory scale a series of innovative catalysts as an active part of a new PM- filter consisting of Pd-Au-Ag-Ni-Co (non Pt) nanometric, powder alloy. The hollow part structure of TiO2-x-RuO2-x has been proposed as the active layer on the catalyst support, composed of SiC. We have previously demonstrated that single layers of Pt atoms on some other materials, such as palladium (Pd) or gold- nickel alloys, have higher activities than the analogous all-Pt catalysts. Such control of the composition and structure of the top-most atomic layers of catalyst particles gives hope of achieving the four-fold increase in mass activity catalysts needed to reach automotive catalyst cost targets.
