The Influence of Vegetation Structure on the Composition of the Seed Rain and Seedling Pool in Abandoned Molinion caeruleae Meadows

The investigations of the effect of different habitat conditions on the composition of the seed rain and seedling pool were conducted in the years 2014 and 2015 in abandoned patches of Molinion caeruleae dominated by small-stature meadow taxa (patch I), tall-growing grasses (patch II), as well as shrubs and trees (patch III). Observations showed that along the successional gradient the seed rain and seedling pool diminishes. The prevalence of perennials and native taxa in the seed rain and seedling pool occurred in all the study sites. Moreover, in the propagule and seedling pools of all the patches hemicryptophytes and meadow taxa prevailed but their number decreased in successional sites. Also, the abundance of ruderal and grassland taxa decreased gradually, at expense of number of forest species. Zoochorous species prevailed in the seed rain and seedling pool of all patches. Number of hydrohorous species decreased in successional patches, while the abundance of species with other dispersal modes were similar. Irrespective of patch character, the species producing propagules with medium size dominated in the seed rain and seedling pools, whereas a significant decrease of number of small-seeded species was noticed only in the seedling pool. Despite the diminishing of the seed rain and seedling pool along the successional gradient, the gap creation might be a very effective way of active protection of Molinion caeruleae meadows. However, the gap colonisation requires permanent monitoring to avoid further spreading of undesired taxa.

Tradycyjny model miasta wielonarodowego, polegający na harmonijnym złożeniu wspólnych wszystkim mieszkańców przestrzeni wymiany handlowej i odrębnych przestrzeni zamieszkania ustępuje modelowi współczesnemu, opartemu na zasadzie rozproszenia ludności i zaniku przestrzeni publicznych. Wiele funkcji ekonomicznych, społecznych i kulturowych, które istniały w przestrzeni publicznej tradycyjnego miasta realizowanych jest obecnie w przestrzeni wirtualnej. Rozproszenie imigrantów w strukturze wielonarodowego miasta sprzyja powstaniu atrakcyjnego, kalejdoskopowego i wielokulturowego organizmu miejskiego, natomiast ich separacja w dzielnicach-gettach sprzyja narastaniu zjawisk patologicznych.

The traditional model of the multinational city, which was based on the harmonious coexistence of separated ethnic residential districts and common multinational public areas, where the exchange of services and goods took place, gives way to the contemporary model, based on the principle of dispersion and segmentation. In the postmodern city virtual space has increasingly becoming a platform of exchange: numerous economic, social and cultural functions are performed through the ubiquitous electronic communications. Public space, symbolic for the European concept of the city, is losing many of its previous functions in favour of the Internet. The dispersion of immigrants in the structure of the multinational city is conducive to the emergence of an attractive, kaleidoscopic and multicultural urban organism, their separation in ghettos results in intensification of pathologies. Integration is assuming the form of a network, while separation that of walls.

Artykuł stanowi syntezę zagadnień opisujących problematykę mniejszości ukraińskiej na ziemiach polskich w odniesieniu do wymiaru retrospektywnego i współczesnego. Istotą zawartych w nim treści jest przedstawienie kluczowych problemów związanych z koegzystencją narodowości ukraińskiej, rozproszonej jako diaspora w narodzie polskim. Należą do nich takie zagadnienia, jak uprzedzenia powstające na gruncie krzywd historycznych, stereotypy narodowościowe oraz wzajemne negatywne postawy, jak szowinizm narodowy, dyskryminacja i etnocentryzm zrodzone w efekcie wspólnej historii, a także stratyfikacji etnicznej - uwarstwienia społecznego.
