Modernizm oglądany z perspektywy ponowoczesności jawi się jako formacja niejednoznaczna i pełna sprzeczności. Wbrew ortodoksyjności haseł, deklarowanej zwartości i pozornej jednolitości, jego architektoniczny obraz obfituje w rysy i pęknięcia, a jego recepcja wywołuje wiele kontrowersji. Zarówno dyskurs modernizmu, jak i dyskurs o modernizmie jest współcześnie kwestionowany oraz poddawany reinterpretacjom. W wystąpieniu podjęte zostaną ogólne kwestie terminologii, typologii oraz aksjologii modernizmu, jak również morfologii architektury nowoczesnej, różnicowanej poprzez trzy odmienne modele (definiowane w sztukach wizualnych przez prof. Andrzeja Turowskiego): modernizm progresywny, modernizm regresywny oraz modernizm transgresyjny. Te zróżnicowane oblicza modernizmu architektonicznego komplikują ponadto różnorodne dialekty: odmiany terytorialne, środowiskowe i historyczne. Retrospektywa architektury modernizmu ma na celu jej rewizję, tj. ponowny przegląd jej dorobku oraz krytyczne rozpatrzenie jej zasad. Implikuje to postulat rewaloryzacji modernizmu architektonicznego, tj. przewartościowania jego dokonań oraz rekuperacji, tj. przywrócenia i odzyskania jego polifonicznego obrazu, stając się przyczynkiem do rozważań nad wielością dyskursów i dialektów architektury modernistycznej.

Modernism, when looked at from the perspective of post-modernity appears to be equivocal and full of contradictions. Contrary to the orthodox sounding of its slogans, declared consignees and seeming uniformity, its architectural shape is full of cracks and crevices, while its reception raises much controversy. Both the modernist discourse and the discourse on modernism is being currently questioned and re-interpreted. His speech tackles general questions in the fields of the terminology, typology and axi-ology of modernism, along with the morphology of modern architecture, diversified by three different models (defined in the field of visual arts by Professor Andrzej Turowski): progressive modernism, regressive modernism and transgressive modernism. These different manifestations of modernism in architecture are further complicated by various dialects: territorial variations, milieux influences and historical impact. The retrospective of modernist architecture aims at its revision, i.e. the vertical survey of its achievements and a critical approach to its principles. This implies the need for the revalorisation of architectural modernism, i.e. the re-evaluation of its achievements and its recuperation, which means the restoring and recovering its polyphonic image. This will become a new contribution in the dispute on the multiplicity of discourses and dialects in modernist architecture.
