Potrzeby w zakresie utrzymania i remontów dróg są w Polsce ogromne. Nasz kraj ma znaczne opóźnienia i zaniedbania w tym zakresie w porównaniu ze „starymi” krajami Unii Europejskiej. Istniejące nawierzchnie w znacznej ich części są w złym stanie, mają usterki funkcjonalne utrudniające ruch (koleiny, nierówności podłużne, niski współczynnik tarcia, spękania, wyboje, nadłamane krawędzie, wykruszenia powierzchni itp.). Wzrastające obciążenie ruchem przyspiesza degradację nawierzchni, które w dużej części mają niewystarczającą nośność i trwałość.

The paper presents methods of diagnostics and principles of modernization of road pavement structures in Poland in view of the world achievements in this field. The paper presents subsequently: description of needs of modernization of pavement structures in Poland, diagnostics of road pavements and its role in Pavement Management System (PMS); methods of evaluation of functional and structural are presented, methods of modernization and repairs of pavement structures. The main emphasis are put on the diagnostics of road pavement structures. The modernization and repairs techniques are presented more briefly. In Poland most paved roads have bituminous pavements, only scare minority have concrete pavements, however their number steadily increases. Taking this into account and considering the limited volume of the paper the description of diagnostics and modernization methods is concentrated on bituminous pavements.
