Obecnie możliwości rewaloryzacji przestrzeni publicznych oraz tworzenia nowych przestrzeni znacznie się zwiększyły. Współczesny rynek materiałów budowlanych daje nieograniczoną paletę barw materiałów i najrozmaitsze możliwości faktur. Główne typy używanych materiałów to: różne typy kamienia, cegła, beton, szkło, stal, aluminium, drewno, asfalt, guma, kompozyty, tworzywa sztuczne. Z materiałów tych wykonuje się zarówno posadzki, jak i poszczególne detale urbanistyczne. Interesujące przykłady stosowania materiałów budowlanych w przestrzeniach publicznych miast europejskich (prezentowane w artykule) powinny być inspiracją dla polskich rozwiązań. Nie należy jednakże zapominać o potrzebie promocji lokalnych materiałów w celu kształtowania tożsamości kulturowej regionu.

Possibilities of renovation and creation of public spaces are much bigger today. Contemporary market of building materials offers unlimited palette of colours of materials as well as very diverse possibilities of creation of surfaces. It is necessary to mention the main types of building materials used in public spaces: the different types of stone, brick, concrete, glass, steel, aluminium, wood, asphalt, gum, plastic. These materials are used both for floors and individual urban details. The interesting examples of using building materials in public spaces of European cities (presented in the article), should become an inspiration for new Polish solutions. It is also necessary to remember about the need of promotion of local materials, what could be helpful for shaping the cultural identity of region.

Najmniejsze elementy organizujące i współkształtujące przestrzeń publiczną nazywane są detalem urbanistycznym. Niniejszy artykuł przybliża podstawowe, związane z nimi, pojęcia, także w kontekście nowej Ustawy o zagospodarowaniu przestrzennym, zwraca uwagę na właściwy dobór i kontekst oraz ich czytelność i organizację. Autorzy rozróżniają! charakteryzują podstawowe grupy detali miejskich, podkreślając w podsumowaniu właściwą ich eksploatację oraz potrzebę projektowania „rodzin" detali, przyczyniających się do lepszej orientacji w terenie. Druga część artykułu poświęcona jest prezentacji przykładowych prac studenckich (poruszających problem detalu w konkretnych sytuacjach) prowadzonych w ramach zajęć Zakładu Architektury Miejsc Pracy i Rekreacji Wydziału Architektury PP.

The smallest elements, which take part in organization and co-formation of the public space, are called the site detail. The present article magnifies the basic notions, concerning the site detail, also in context of the new Act of Spatial Planning. It emphasizes on an appropriate selection and context and also on their readability and organisation. The authors distinguish and describe fundamental groups of urban details, emphasizing in summalion, their adequate exploitation and need for designing them as details' "families", which are contributory in a better area orientation. The second part of the article is devoted EO the presentation of exemplary students' works (concerning the problem of the site detail in a certain situations), practiced in teaching courses of the Architecture of Work Places and Recreation Unit of the Faculty of Architecture at Poznań University of Technology.
