W publikacji przedstawiono Park Śląski, który był budowany od 1954 r. przez 18 lat według projektu wykonanego pod kierunkiem prof. arch. Władysława Niemirskiego. Jest to jeden z największych parków w swoim rodzaju w Polsce oraz w Europie (około 600 ha). Założony częściowo na terenach zdegradowanych, stał się po latach przykładem udanej rekultywacji i renaturalizacji krajobrazu antropogenicznego. Park Śląski oficjalnie tworzony w duchu realnego socrealizmu (teoretycznie wzorowany na realizacjach w Związku Radzieckim), w rzeczywistości reprezentuje klasyczne zasady modernizmu.

This paper is dedicated to Voivodship Park of Culture and Recreation in Chorzów (Silesia Park) - one of the biggest of its kind in Poland and in Europe (ca. 600 ha of total area). Construction of the Park had begun in 1954 according to the design under the direction of prof. Władysław Niemirski. After many years it became an example of successful land remediation and re-naturalization of anthropogenic landscape. The whole facility though formally created in socrealism style, actually represents classical modernism’s features inspired probably by American parks with a rich recreation program.

In modern commercial or residential buildings with high specifications in building services, a common method of incorporating services within the floor-ceiling zone of buildings is to create large openings in the webs of beam members. The openings are most likely to be rectangular or circular, and may be in the form of discrete openings, or a series of openings, along the member length of the beam. Over the past few decades, the structural behaviour of beams with web openings was a popular research topic, and numerous research projects were executed and reported including experimental investigations, finite element studies, and also development of design rules. This paper presents a review on recent developments on design of perforated steel beams with web openings of various shapes and sizes.
