Content available Against strict headedness in syntax
EN
Strict headedness is a common idealization in the structural analysis of linguistic entities, particularly in syntax. This contribution takes a critical look at its premises and applications by demonstrating the surprising sloppiness of both the defining concepts and the test procedures, and by showing how strict headedness is nevertheless implemented as an important axiom into virtually all mainstream grammar formalisms. Subsequently, I present a non-trivial head-agnostic analysis based on Tree Unification & Constraints (TUCO) in order to show that there actually is a choice and that strict headedness can be avoided in principle.

Nord Stream 2 has been contentious issue in Europe. Building this pipeline will have potential consequences like greater German dependency to Russian gas. It is argued that due to climate policy adopted by Germany, future gas demand in this country could be much bigger. Nord Stream 2 is seen in many German business and political circles as a hedging strategy minimizing risks connected with growing share of gas in power production.

This report focuses on the safety analysis in the multistate ageing system after changing the safety state by any of its components, the inside interactions among the remaining components may cause the change of those components’ safety states. As we consider multistate systems, in a local, equal and mixed load sharing model of dependencies. For them, we analyze the safety of a multistate parallel-series and “m out of l”-series system, assuming that the lifetimes of subsystem components in the safety state subset are decreasing according to the local load sharing rule and the lifetimes of subsystems are decreasing according to the equal load sharing rule.

A problem of parallel system reliability with dependent failures of components is presented in the paper. It is assumed that lifetimes of components are independent random variable having Weibull distribution. We take under consideration a parallel (in reliability meaning) system consisting of n independent at the beginning of work and identical components. We assume that a load of the working system affects on the reliability of its components and the load of the system is distributed on all working components. Therefore, a failure rate of each component is changeable during run of the system and depends on a number of working elements at this point in time. As a model of the system failures we construct a stochastic process which value at the moment t denotes the number of working components. Generally it is neither Markov nor semi-Markov process. To assess the reliability characteristics of the system we simulate this stochastic process using the Monte-Carlo method and we calculate values of nonparametric kernel density and reliability functions estimators.

Critical Infrastructures’ disruptions may result in crises of unacceptable outcomes in modern societies. Thus, it is important to develop models that allow describing CIs’ disruptions and their propagation characteristics. CI disruptions depend on both the type of the threat and on the nature of the CIs’ mutual dependencies. A model describing the cascade of disruptions should, then, be able to consider the CI-threat vulnerability and the CI-CI dependency. The paper presents a model where cascades are exactly described using an integral equation. The integral equation admits an analytical solution if the occurrence probability distribution functions (pdf) of the disruptions obey Stochastic Poisson Processes (SPP). The introduction of the “vulnerability to the threat” and the “CIs’ (inter)dependencies” is carried out with the help of time constant factors called: “vulnerability strain factor” and “disruption strain factor”, respectively. An academic case is presented in order to demonstrate the applicability of the model and illustrate some interesting features of the model. A complete set of numerical applications will be published separately.

Content available Local dependency in networks
EN
Many real world data and processes have a network structure and can usefully be represented as graphs. Network analysis focuses on the relations among the nodes exploring the properties of each network. We introduce a method for measuring the strength of the relationship between two nodes of a network and for their ranking. This method is applicable to all kinds of networks, including directed and weighted networks. The approach extracts dependency relations among the network's nodes from the structure in local surroundings of individual nodes. For the tasks we deal with in this article, the key technical parameter is locality. Since only the surroundings of the examined nodes are used in computations, there is no need to analyze the entire network. This allows the application of our approach in the area of large-scale networks. We present several experiments using small networks as well as large-scale artificial and real world networks. The results of the experiments show high effectiveness due to the locality of our approach and also high quality node ranking comparable to PageRank.

Modeling temperature of pellet press matrix for wood pellets. On the basis of active industrial experiments on industrial equipment mathematical dependence is obtained, showing the change in temperature of the matrix during the granulation of wood pellets. This dependence, adequate to real conditions, can be effectively used to control this important parameter that provides stable operation of the equipment. Minimum temperature of the matrix, determined from the results of presented research, increases service life of matrix and reduces the probability of emergency situations.

Based on the results of research conducted in 2012 by the Higher Vocational School in Suwalki in the region of Podlasie and Warmia and Mazury, there have been defined the relationship between the average age of tractors used on farms and the acreage of farms and power of the installed tractor engines. The study was conducted by a directed interview. The results are shown in the graphs in which there are marked trend lines designated using functions which illustrate the best the studied dependences. The tested farms have been equipped with a total of 166 tractors of sixty types, with a capacity from 18 to 122 kW. Per one farm there have been 2.6 tractors, on average. In the studied farms the age of tractors ranged from 1 to 41 years (the average amount to about 16 years). It has been found that the average age of tractors decreased with increasing acreage of farms and capacity of installed engines.

Content available remote Structures with Multirelations, their Discrete Dualities and Applications
EN
In this paper we show that the problem of discrete duality can be extended beyond the clasical setting of duality between a class of algebras and a class of relational structures. Namely, for some classes of algebras, the relevant dual structures are the structures with multirelations. Several applications of multirelations will be described.
