Zmniejszająca się liczba gruntów przydatnych dla budownictwa powoduje, że wykonawcy często budują na terenach o niekorzystnych warunkach gruntowych. Aby poprawić właściwości podłoża stosowane są metody jego wzmacniania, z których większość jest relatywnie nowa. Są one rozwijane, co powoduje, że normalizacja z zakresu projektowania i wykonawstwa "nie nadąża" za rozwojem techniki. Przedstawione przykłady głębokiej wymiany gruntu i wymiany dynamicznej są raczej prostymi metodami wzmacniania podłoża, lecz często są skuteczne i ekonomicznie uzasadnione.

The diminishing of useful grounds for construction industry is more and more noticeable. The contractors and builders face the necessity to build in places, where the ground's conditions are not so good. For the purpose of improvement the base properties are used various methods of strengthening. A lot of those methods are relatively new. They are unceasingly improved, which causes the normalization of designing and realization "don't follow" the development of technique. The committee CEN/TC 288 (Execution of special geotechnical works) has prepared 13 norms connected with strengthening the background and foundations. But they didn't include all the norms used at present. The norms of designing (EC 7-1) treat this issue very perfunctory. In case of strengthening the background the observational method promoted in EC 7-1 is specifically useful. The examples of deep ground replacement and dynamic replacement presented in this paper are really simple methods of strengthening the background. But very often they occurred to be effective and economical.
