General characteristics of concept of "zero horizon" (saturation plateau) in saturation diving and its experimental test

This paper reports the results of 4 nitrox saturation dives, equivalent to the saturation dives at 10, 20, 30 and 40 m. There were 3 divers participating in each simulated dive. For each exposure divers made excursions to 70 m beyond the level of saturation plateau, so called "zero horizon", with application of typical air decompression tables No decompression incidents were observed during the experiment, this proved that the duration of stops at depth was correct .For the excursions to 70m both: zero decompression or air decompression tables may be used. The results obtained allow to optimize the big scale underwater works and help in effective planning of excursions with the application of habitats for saturated diving. All tests were performed at the experimental complex of chambers PDK-2-DP. The subjects participating were divers selected after a special training with high partial nitrogen pressures.
