Information processing as a determinant of effective management

Purpose: The aim of this article is to present the process of information processing as an element correlated with effective management. The authors have already quoted the information hierarchy in their own published papers a few times. This paper is a kind of systematization of knowledge concerning the process of information processing in terms of making strategic decisions and resources management. Design/methodology/approach: In the paper the critical analysis of literature was carried out and the theoretical basis concerning the information hierarchy and the OODA loop was presented. The field of this paper concerns information processing in the context of management and decision supporting. Findings: In each of the discussed literature references, the authors identified information hierarchy along with OODA loop. It allowed us to achieve the aim which was defined earlier, namely, to show information processing as an element correlated with effective management. Research limitations/implications: In the paper a few examples were analysed. Therefore, the next step in the future research should be to focus at the review of a bigger amount of them. Originality/value: The paper shows that the information hierarchy could be used unconsciously in decision process. The authors showed how to detect the information hierarchy in a management process. The paper should be read by persons whose research interests are focused on the decision support by the information and communication technologies.

Freight and warehouse exchanges: modern logistic information systems

The paper begins with a description about the services of electronic freight and ware-house exchanges currently available on the Internet, then, continues to point out their shortcomings. Based on this, it demonstrates the participants, the aims, the structure and the services of a logistically and economically ideal electronic freight and warehouse exchange system. Then it presents the e-commerce toolbar (catalogue, tenders, auctions), which gives the framework of choosing. It empha-sises the application of a self-developed multi-criteria decision supporting algorithm (based on AHP – Analytic Hierarchy Process -) in the assessment of offers received for tender. The paper describes one optimum search problem emerging in electronic freight and warehouse exchanges, then presents, in details, the ant colony algorithm (BA_ACO) for its solution (to support the complex logistics processes). The demonstration of the modules and operational process of this system is done with the help of self-developed VBA-based (Visual Basic Application) algorithms.

Artykuł nie wyczerpuje problematyki wspomagania decyzji oraz nie uwzględnił wszystkich stosowanych tam metod. Miał na celu ukazanie faktu. że przy tworzeniu i realizacji strategii rozwoju oprócz często stosowanych metod zarządzania strategicznego (SWOT, scenariuszowa. SPACE) warto zwrócić uwagę na klasyczne metody podejmowania decyzji. Mogą one wzbogacić wykorzystywane narzędzie i pomóc w budowaniu strategii rozwoju miasta, województwa i kraju przez dokonywanie właściwych wyborów opartych na matematycznych podstawach.

The herby article describes the issues of decision supporting systems to be accurate for creating development strategies for cities, viovodships and countries. It presents single and multi-criterial decision making methods. It also shows the range those methods can be used and their adequacy for solving decision problems of strategic development.
