Sunlight availability in antiquity was associated with the sun-path changes determining time measured by gnomons due to their sunshade orientation and length. Sundials were developed in sun-path geometry and the right of daylight availability was declared by law. Medieval glazed windows enabled better daylighting. Luminance measurements in the 18th Century started photometry, standardisation of light units and evaluations. In the 20th Century continued the further development of daylight calculation methods together with the determination of natural light sources.

W celu przeprowadzenia dokładniejszych ocen charakterystyk i symulacji energetycznych w budynkach potrzeba informacji o dostępności i wykorzystaniu oświetlenia dla wykonania pracy wzrokowej. W artykule przedstawiono prostą metodą modelowania typowych dziennych cykli natężeń oświetlenia i napromienienia możliwych do zastosowania w syntezie sekwencji.
