Crime is an ongoing problem, and ever easier access to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as the constant development of technology, continue to enable new methods of crime. The article discusses the most known definitions of criminality and theories relating to this topic. The author shows various causes of crimes, presenting the most common of them.

Przestępczość jest problemem ciągle aktualnym, a coraz łatwiejszy dostęp do narkotyków i substancji psychotropowych, jak również ciągły rozwój technologii, powodują, że wciąż pojawiają się nowe metody popełniania przestępstw. W artykule omówiono najbardziej znane definicje przestępczości i teorie nawiązujące do tego tematu. Autorka wskazuje także na różne przyczyny przestępczości, przedstawiając najpowszechniejsze z nich.

Artykuł ma na celu ukazanie zjawiska przemytu na wschodniej granicy Polski ujawnionego przez Straż Graniczną w latach 2000-2008. Wskazany przedział czasowy pozwoli na obserwację dynamiki przemytu w trzech okresach: 1. przed przystąpieniem Polski do UE, 2. przed przystąpieniem do Układów z Schengen, 3. rok po przystąpieniu do Układów z Schengen. Analiza _ prowadzona według powyższego schematu czasowego pozwoli na przedstawienie ewolucji su granic: granica z Litwą stała się wewnętrzną granicą Unii Europejskiej, na której została wzniesiona kontrola ruchu granicznego, granice z Rosją, Białorusią i Ukrainą uzyskały status granic zewnętrznych.

Article aims to show the phenomenon of trafficking in the eastern Polish border revealed by the Border Guard in 2000-2008. Specified time interval will allow the observation of the dynamics of trafficking in three periods: 1 before Polish accession to the EU, 2 prior to the Schengen Agreements, 3 one year after accession to the Schengen Agreements. _ Analysis conducted by the above scheme will provide a time evolution of borders: the border with Lithuania became an internal border of the European Union, which was erected traffic control border, borders with Russia, Belarus and Ukraine have acquired the status of the external borders.

After the communist block collapse, other than military threats for the functioning of the state were noticed. The security understood at that time only in war and peace categories lost its meaning in the new reality. New unfavourable phenomena were discovered, the escalation of which may lead to destabilisation of the state structures or even, in consequence, to an open military conflict. Terrorism and organised crime are included in these threats category. Terrorism is not a phenomenon that in Poland poses a great threat towards security, however, organised crime is included in these categories. The article deals with terrorism, its evolution in the last thirty years and also with organised crime that in some cases may appear as a mafia organisation. The author describes the mentioned above threats, relating to their most crucial elements and also a real possibility of their existence in Poland. He also shows how the Polish authorities are prepared to counteract and fight them.
