The influence of surface roughness on the hydrodynamics of the falling water film in cooling towers

This paper sets out the results of experiments for falling filmat Rew = 70 . . . 340 in the vertical channel of two coaxialtubes, ∅37/17 mm, 1 m high, for a counter current air flow with Reair = 2200 . . . 10⁴. Subject to investigation was falling film on smooth and capillary-porous wall surfaces at constant film thickness greater than the height of the capillary-porous coating (0.3 mm). It was established that film thickness is weakly dependent on the velocity of the counter current airflow at wair = 1.7. . . 7.3 m/s. The water concentration on a smooth surface is 2 times higher at the same film thickness. The results of flooding in a channel with a smooth wall surface confirm the validity of the Wallis equation with deviation up to 20%.

Praca dotyczy modelowania przeciwprądowego przepływu dwufazowego gaz-ciecz w kolumnie z wypełnieniem porowatym. Wielofazowy model eulerowski został wykorzystany do opisania ruchu płynu w dwu-wymiarowej, osiowosymetrycznej domenie obliczeniowej. Jako czynniki zastosowane zostały woda i powietrze. Opory przepływu fazy dominującej, tj. gazu, zostały wyznaczone na drodze eksperymentalnej. Uzyskane wyniki obliczeń wskazują na adekwatność zastosowanego modelu do analizowanego przepływu.

The paper deals with the numerical modelling of countercurrent flow through the absorber column with packed bed inside. Model geometry follows the real pilot plant absorber column localized in IChPW in Zabrze. The Euler-Euler model was applied to treat the gas-liquid system in 2-dimensional and axisymmetric domain. The flow is dominated by the gas phase and the liquid creates the film on the packed bed. The results obtained have shown the realistic behaviour of the system in terms of its hydrodynamics.

W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki teoretycznej i doświadczalnej analizy procesu sedymentacji w osadniku przepływowym z wypełnieniem lamelowym typu kanałowego. Badania prowadzono w aparacie osadczym przeciw- i współprądowym. Opracowano równania korelacyjne umożliwiające projektowanie osadników płytowych i wielokanałowych dla obu sposobów prowadzenia procesu.

Results of theoretical and experimental analysis of sedimentation process in multichannel lamella packing settler have been shown in this paper. Studies were conducted in counter-current and co-current regime settlers. Correlation equations, which made possible design of plates and multi-channels type settlers for both flows have been developed.
