W artykule przedstawiono koszty bezpieczeństwa ponoszone w Kompanii Węglowej S.A., założenia i wyniki realizowanego w kopalniach KW S.A. w latach 2009-2015 „Planu poprawy BHP”. Przedstawiono również, w jaki sposób KW S.A. włączyła się w realizację celu zawartego we „Wspólnotowej strategii na rzecz bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy na lata 2007-2012”, którym było zmniejszenie liczby wypadków przy pracy i chorób zawodowych w ciągu 6 lat o 25% w każdym państwie członkowskim.

The article presents safety costs incurred by Kompania Węglowa S.A., as well as the assumptions and outcomes of the Occupational Health and Safety Improvement Plan, carried out in the mines of KW S.A. in 2009-2015. Moreover, the paper discusses the way KW S.A. contributed to the accomplishment of the purpose included in „The Community Strategy on health and safety at work 2007-2012”, which specified the general objective as reducing the number of accidents at work and occupational diseases within the period of 6 years, that is until 2012, by 25% in each member state of the UE.

Prezentowany artykuł przedstawia szczegółową analizę kosztów i wydatków, jakie poniosły ZUS i KWK "Makoszowy" w latach 2001-2007 z tytułu wypadków i chorób zawodowych zaistniałych w badanym okresie w tej kopalni. Autor w artykule dokonał podziału kosztów na koszty związane bezpośrednio z wypadkami i chorobami zawodowymi, koszty składki na ubezpieczenie społeczne i koszty działań profilaktycznych na rzecz poprawy bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy w kopalni. Uzyskane wyniki są ciekawym studium przypadków obrazującym faktyczny poziom corocznych nakładów i wydatków ponoszonych przez kopalnie na rzecz poprawy stanu bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy i pokrycie kosztów zaistniałych zdarzeń wypadkowych i chorobowych.

The article presents particular analysis of costs and expences carried by ZUS and KWK "Makoszowy" in 2001 -2007 in consequence of occupational diseases and accidents occurrenced in research period in this mine. The author have been achieved classification of costs for costs connected directly with occupational diseases and accidents, costs of contribution for social insurance, and costs of preventive actions for improvement of occupational safety and health in a mine. Gained results are interesting case study presented real level of annual expenditures and expenses carried by mines for improvements of occupational safety and health condition, and defrayment of costs of occurrenced occupational diseases and accidents.

Pressures from 3 sources are combining to advance workplace safety and health throughout the globe. Firstly, an increasingly widespread growth in a State’s interest in the individual, both in and outside the workplace. This leads to regulations, which are rapidly changing from prescriptive to enabling (performance) regulations. An increasing acceptance of sophisticated accounting procedures which will drive the real costs of poor health and safety to the bottom line of corporations. Finally, the trend to globalization, both of manufacturing and of marketing, has led to an increasing demand from consumer societies for product attributes beyond price. In many countries there is an expectation that working conditions in producing countries are not inferior to those in the consuming countries.
