Cemented carbides are widely used in industry as the structural components or wear-resistant parts (including tools and dies) and other applications where the demand for high performance materials is essential. About 60% of the punches, used within dies for the production of high quality sheet metal parts, are made of WC-Co. These materials are machined either by WEDM or electrochemical grinding or grinding. WC-Co cemented carbides characterize good wear and corrosion resistance but are difficult-to-machine by conventional methods. WEDM of WC-Co can be automated and enables machining of complex shapes. The influence of the material properties and the composition (cobalt content) of HF6 and G20 cemented carbides on the WEDM technological effects is studied in this paper. The research was realized on the electrical discharge machine Sodick AQ 300 l which provides no wear compared to balls crews, no vibrations and perfect positioning through linear glass scales.
