We discuss some aspects of similarity measures in the context of Atanassov’s intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs, for short). IFSs, proposed in 1983, are a relatively new tool for the modeling and simulation and, because of their construction, present us with new challenges as far the similarity measures are concerned. Specifically, we claim that the distances alone are not a proper measure of similarity for the IFSs. We stress the role of a lack of knowledge concerning elements (options, decisions, etc.) and point out the role of the opposing (complementing) elements. We also pay attention to the fact that it is not justified to talk about similarity when one has not enough knowledge about the compared objects/elements. Some novel measures of similarity are presented.

Let G be a graph and ƒ : V(G) → P({1, 2}) be a function where for every vertex v ∈ V(G), with ƒ (v) = ∅ we have [formula]. Then ƒ is a 2-rainbow dominating function or a 2RDF of G. The weight of ƒ is[formula]. The minimum weight of all 2-rainbow dominating functions is 2-rainbow domination number of G, denoted by [formula]. Let G 1 and G2 be two copies of a graph G with disjoint vertex sets V(G 1) and V(G2), and let σ be a function from V(G 1) to V(G2). We define the functigraph C(G,σ) to be the graph that has the vertex set V(C(G, ,σ)) = V(G 1) U V(G2), and the edge set [formula]. In this paper, 2-rainbow domination number of the functigraph of C(G, ,σ) and its complement are investigated. We obtain a general bound for [formula] and we show that this bound is sharp.

Napadowa nocna hemoglobinuria (NNH) jest klasyfikowana do grupy rzadkich, nabytych, nieimmunologicznych niedokrwistości hemolitycznych. W patogenezie NNH główną rolę odgrywają aktywowane na powierzchni komórek krwi składowe dopełniacza, które indukują lizę erytrocytów. Do ciężkich powikłań NNH zalicza się m.in.: anemię, zakrzepicę, uszkodzenia nerek i dystonię mięśni gładkich. Choroba występuje zazwyczaj u młodych dorosłych i wymaga specjalistycznej diagnostyki. Głównym narzędziem pozwalającym na rozpoznanie i monitorowanie NNH jest cytometria przepływowa. Mimo opracowania nowych schematów terapeutycznych, rokowanie w NNH jest niekorzystne.

Paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH) is classified as a rare, acquired, non-immune haemolytic anaemia. In the pathogenesis of PNH, activated complement components induce the lysis of blood cells. PNH complications include anaemia, thrombosis, kidney dysfunction and smooth muscle dystonia. The disease occurs in young adults and requires specialised diagnostics. Flow cytometry is the main tool for recognizing and monitoring PNH. Despite the new therapeutic regimens, the prognosis for PNH is unfavourable.

The adjacency matrix of a graph is a matrix which represents adjacent relation between the vertices of the graph. Its minimum eigenvalue is defined as the least eigenvalue of the graph. Let Gn be the set of the graphs of order n, whose complements are connected and have pendent paths. This paper investigates the least eigenvalue of the graphs and characterizes the unique graph which has the minimum least eigenvalue in Gn.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki leczenia dziesięciu pacjentow chorujących na ciężką postać atopowego zapalenia skory (AZS), nie reagujących na typową farmakoterapię, ktorych poddano leczeniu tlenoterapią hiperbaryczną (HBOT). U każdego z pacjentow zastosowano 10 ekspozycji tlenowych przy pO2 2,5 ATA (~250 kPa) i czasie trwania 60 min. Na czas realizacji procedur hiperbarycznych u wszystkich chorych odstawiono leczenie ogolne, utrzymując typowe postępowanie miejscowe. W grupie badanej przeprowadzano oceną kliniczną, a także określano poziom immunoglobulin: IgA, IgG, IgM i IgE oraz składowych C3 i C4 dopełniacza. U wszystkich pacjentow uzyskano poprawę kliniczną, a także stwierdzono zmniejszenie się poziomu immunoglobuliny IgE i składowej dopełniacza C3 po zakończeniu cyklu ekspozycji. Biorąc pod uwagę obserwacje własne i dane z piśmiennictwa, ogolna poprawa stanu klinicznego oraz obniżenie poziomu immunoglobuliny E i składowej C3 dopełniacza po cyklu ekspozycji może świadczyć o immunomodulującym wpływie HBOT na przebieg AZS, a tlenoterapia hiperbaryczna może stanowić opcję terapeutyczną dla niektorych chorych na AZS, w szczegolności tych słabo reagujących na standardowe leczenie.

The paper discusses the treatment results of ten patients with severe atopic dermatitis (AD) who did not respond to standard pharmacotherapy and underwent hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). Each patient was subject to 10 oxygen exposures at pO2 2.5 ATA (~ 250 kPa) with the duration time of 60 minutes. In the period of implementation of the hyperbaric procedures the general treatment plan was suspended for all patients while maintaining typical local treatment. Clinical evaluation was performed in the study group as well as determination of levels of immunoglobulins: IgA, IgG, IgM and IgE and C3 and C4 complement. All patients indicated clinical improvement and a decreased IgE immunoglobulin and complement C3 level upon the completion of the exposure cycle. Taking into account the authors' own observations and data from literature, an overall improvement in the clinical status and a decrease in the level of immunoglobulin E and C3 complement following a cycle of exposures may be indicative of an immunomodulating HBOT effect on AD, whereas hyperbaric oxygenation may constitute a therapeutic option for some patients with AD, especially those exhibiting a poor response to standard treatment.

Znajomość zagadnienia wpływu hiperbarii tlenowej na ustrój ludzki i zwierzęcy posiada duże znaczenie teoretyczne i praktyczne. Wynika to z faktu, że hiperbaria tlenowa znajduje coraz szersze zastosowanie w leczeniu różnych chorób. Niestety nasza wiedza na temat wpływu hiperbarii, w tym hiperbarii tlenowej, na reakcje immunologiczne organizmu ludzkiego i zwierzęcego jest w dalszym ciągu niewystarczająca i niepełna. Instytut Medycyny Morskiej Wojskowej Akademii Medycznej w Gdyni od kilku lat prowadzi badania poświęcone tej dziedzinie. W ramach badań w zakresie immunologii prowadzone są eksperymenty z udziałem zwierząt (króliki, świnki morskie) i ludzi (nurkowie i kandydaci na nurków). Wpływ hiperbarii tlenowej w przedziale ciśnień od 2,8 do 3,1 ata badany jest podczas ekspozycji jednorazowych i wielokrotnych. Badanie ujawniło istotne zmiany w odpowiedzi immunologicznej zarówno u zwierząt, jak i u ludzi.

Knowledge of the impact of hyperbaric conditions, especially hyperbaric oxygen, on human and animal organisms, is of great theoretical and practical importance, particularly in reference to the increased application of hyperbaric oxygen for therapeutic purposes. It must be said that unfortunately our knowledge on the impact of hyperbaria, including oxygen hyperbaria, on the immunological response of the animal and human organisms is still not sufficient and is incomplete. The Institute of the Naval Medicine of the Naval Academy in Gdynia has been carrying out tests in this field for some years now. The tests have been carried out on animals (rabbits, guinea pigs) as well as on humans (commercial divers, scuba divers, and candidates to these activities) within immunology investigations. The impact of hyperbaric oxygen at pressures ranging between 2.8 and 3.1 ata, in single or multiple expositions, have been tested as well as the relations between hyperbaria in air and the different conditions of the exposure.The study revealed important shifts in the immunological response of both the animals and humans.

Dyskutowana jest nowa metoda indukcji reguł decyzyjnych. W przeciwieństwie do klasycznej metody sekwencyjnego pokrywania stosuje się w niej dwustopniowy proces selekcji reguł, w którym pojedyncze obiekty są uogólniane w celu uzyskania zbioru reguł minimalnych. Następnie rodzina wszystkich minimalnych reguł jest selekcjonowana wydajnymi algorytmami heurystycznymi. Przedstawione wyniki eksperymentów wskazują, że metoda znacząco usprawnia proces indukcji reguł decyzyjnych.

A new method of solving the rule induction problem is discussed. The method is different to the classical approach using the so called sequential covering strategy. The main idea is to use the two stage selection process where single objects are considered in order to find whole sets of minimal rules. Next the family of minimal rules is selected using efficient highly-heuristic algorithms. The presented results of experiments with typical databases indicate that the proposed approach significantly improves the efficiency of the rule induction process.

Badania dotyczyły wpływu krioterapii ogólnoustrojowej na poziom przeciwciał i białek C3 i C4 w surowicy osób poddanych cyklicznemu działaniu niskich temperatur. Stwierdzono podwyższenie stężeń białek dopełniacza; po zakończeniu wszystkich serii badań miały one wartości podobne do wyjściowych lub były wyższe.

The level of proteins in blood serum as a result of whole body cryotherapy was examined. Differences in the concentration of immunoglobulins and C3 and C4 complement proteins were stated. After the therapy the concentration of serum proteins was similar to initial values or higher. These changes seem to be stable.

Celem przedstawionych badań było określenie wpływu krioterapii ogólnoustrojowej na zmiany poziomu białek dopełniacza i aktywność bakteriobójczą surowicy krwi. Wykazano wzrost cytolitycznego działania białek dopełniacza surowicy krwi wobec komórek Shigella flexnerii zarówno w trakcie zabiegów jak i po zakończeniu wszystkich serii badań.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of whole-body cryotherapy on the level of proteins of complement and bactericidal activity of serum. Our preliminary result showed that the cytolitic effect of the complement of serum against Shigella flexneri cells significantly increased. These changes seem to be permanent.
