Artykuł przedstawia podstawowe terminy, definicje i kryteria dotyczące klasyfikacji gospodarczych, takie jak: dyferencjacja, dywersyfikacja, wyrób, usługa, produkt czy system klasyfikacyjny. Wyjaśniono różnice pomiędzy klasyfikacjami macierzystymi, pochodnymi i powiązanymi. Przedstawiono najważniejsze cele, zasady i kryteria klasyfikacyjne. Zaprezentowano wyniki badań aktualnego stanu rozwoju kilku najważniejszych, globalnych klasyfikacji gospodarczych, ich przeznaczenie, struktury kodowe, nazwy grupowań, nazwy organizacji odpowiedzialnych za ich utrzymanie. W niektórych wypadkach podano krotką historię powstania systemu lub częstotliwość aktualizacji czy też dostępność albo format danych. W części trzeciej opisano strukturę i przeznaczenie natowskiej klasyfikacji wyrobów i jej powiązania z innymi systemami kodowymi lub klasyfikacyjnymi.

The article introduces the basic terms and definitions such: differential, diversification, goods, services, product or classification system. The difference between reference, derived and related classifications has also been illustrated. Thus, the most important aims, rules and criteria of classification systems have also been offered. Additionally, it shows the results of the most recent research concerning the state of development of a few most important global economic classifications. The article also presents: destination, code structures, names of the classifications levels, and the names of organizations which are responsible for providing and maintaining classification systems. In some cases, the shorter history of developing the system, the frequency of updates, the availability, and the format of dates had been stated. The chapter 3 describes structure and destination of the NATO Supply Classification and the references to the other coding or classification systems.
