The paper presents the results of investigations concerning thermally coated electrodes to be used in processes with the participation of hydrogen. Active coatings based on nickel and cobalt with an admixture of platinum and ruthenium, obtained by means of thermal decomposition of the respective salts on the nickel substrate and stainless ferritic and austenitic steels, are characterized by the lowest overpotential of hydrogen. The values of the overpotential of hydrogen evolution in 1 M NaOH solution at the temperature of 25°C amount to about 80 mV at a current density of j = 10 mA/cm2.
