Celem artykułu jest próba przybliżenia humanistom technicznych aspektów rozwoju cywilizacji, zaś inżynierom i ekonomistom – humanistycznego spojrzenia na technikę i ekonomię. W dzisiejszych czasach dynamicznego rozwoju nauk, kiedy zgromadzona wiedza przekracza możliwość ogarnięcia jej przez jednego człowieka, wspólna synergia ludzi dobrej woli staje się koniecznością w codziennych procesach. Ale, aby ta synergia mogła zaistnieć, musimy jako społeczeństwo zrozumieć punkty widzenia innych ludzi. Artykuł składa się z czterech części, w których są opisane główne determinanty rozwoju cywilizacyjnego. W pierwszej części, dotyczącej ekonomii, autor przypomina, skąd wyszliśmy jako zorganizowane społeczeństwa. W drugim rozdziale, dotyczącym techniki, autor skupia się na sile ludzkiego umysłu i dążeniu do ułatwiania sobie życia. W trzecim rozdziale, dotyczącym religii, autor podkreśla jej ważną rolę w życiu społeczeństw. I wreszcie w czwartym rozdziale jest mowa o sztuce jako ważnym środku komunikacji pozawerbalnej.

The aim of the article is to try to familiarize humanists with the technical aspects of the development of civilization, while engineers and economists with a humanistic view of technology and economics. Nowadays, the dynamic development of the sciences, when the accumulated knowledge exceeds the possibility of being embraced by one man, a common synergy of people of good will becomes a necessity in everyday processes. But for this synergy to occur, we need to understand other people’s points of view as a society. The article consists of four parts, in which the main determinants of civilization development are described. In the first part concerning economics, the author reminds us where we came from as organized societies. In the second chapter on technology, the author focuses on the strength of the human mind and the desire to facilitate his life. In the third chapter, concerning religion, the author emphasizes its important role in the life of societies. Finally, the fourth chapter deals with art as an important means of non-verbal communication.

Light plays a key role in human’s life. Without light there will be no human life environment. Technologies based on light, called photonics, decide of the development of our civilization. The role of photonics is constantly increasing, especially in such fields as energy, education, agriculture and health. The UN has established the International Year of Light and Light - based Technologies – IYL2015 [1]. The organizers of IYL2015 events are professional organizations, communities, educational organizations, non-profit ones, technological clusters and platforms, but also private sector. The aim is to increase the social consciousness about the role of light and photonics in building of our civilization. This sort of recognition is necessary as a needed component of the development process of the society. Introduction of new technologies, like completely new kind of lighting, new diagnostic and therapeutic methods, new sources of energy, etc., must meet with social acceptance. In the opposite case, isolated development of infrastructure, will meet with obstacles. In Poland, the professional events, technical, trade fairs and outreach ones, are organized in the framework of the IYL2015 by Photonics Society of Poland, Polish Physical Society, Polish Platform of Photonics Technologies, etc. The paper summarizes the issues combined with the organization of the IYL2015 globally and in Poland. Extended version of this paper was published in Polish [2]. The paper is a part of a cycle of articles devoted to analysis of global processes of photonics development. Previous papers concerned initiatives Photonics21 in Europe [3-4], NPI – National Photonics Initiative in USA [5], and development of optical sciences in Poland [6-15].

Światło pełni kluczową rolę w życiu człowieka. Bez światła nie istniałoby nasze środowisko życia. Technologie bazujące naświetle, określane nazwą fotonika, decydują obecnie o rozwoju naszej cywilizacji. Rola fotoniki będzie nadal rosła, szczególnie w takich dziedzinach jak energia, edukacja, rolnictwo, i zdrowie. ONZ ustanowiła Międzynarodowy Rok Światła 2015 (MRŚ2015, IYL2015). Organizatorami będą instytucje zawodowe, NT, społeczne, edukacyjne, klastry i platformy technologiczne, a także partnerzy prywatni. Celem jest zwiększenie świadomości społecznej o roli światła i fotoniki w budowie naszej cywilizacji. Taka świadomość jest konieczna jako element składowy procesu rozwoju. Wprowadzanie nowych technologii, np. zupełnie nowego rodzaju oświetlenia, nowych metod leczniczych, nowych źródeł energii, itp. musi spotkać się z akceptacją społeczną. W przeciwnym przypadku izolowany rozwój infrastrukturalny napotyka na trudności. W Polsce imprezy zawodowe NT, popularyzacyjne, oraz targi przemysłowe, w ramach obchodów MRŚ2015, są organizowane przez Polskie Stowarzyszenie Fotoniczne, Polskie Towarzystwo Fizyczne, Polską Platformę Technologii Fotonicznych, itp. Artykuł podsumowuje zagadnienia związane z organizacją MRŚ2015 na świecie i w kraju. Artykuł jest częścią cyklu publikowanego w Elektronice i dotyczącego globalnych procesów rozwoju fotoniki. Poprzednie artykuły dotyczyły inicjatyw NPI w USA oraz Photonics21 w Europie.

Na estetykę mostów w dużej mierze wpływa konstrukcja. Nowe technologie dają nowe możliwości kreowania formy architektonicznej mostów. Jednak technologia pozostaje jedynie narzędziem projektantów w poszukiwaniu estetyki.

Largely a construction influences to aesthetics of bridges. New technologies are giving new opportunities of creating the architectural form of bridges. However the technology remains only a tool for designers in quest of aesthetics.
