The new post-modern approach to city planning, which started in the sixties, resulted in a significant amount of research. The thoeries and methodologies then conceived continue to be developed to this day. They represent two main streams of research. A humanistic approach focused predominantly on the man-environment relationship while in the morphological approach the focus was to examine the relationships among various spatial elements, to include their development process. Unfortunately, neither architects nor urban planners take sufficient advantage of the findings that this body of research provides.
