Article deals with phenomenon of the temporary use, which increasingly has been considered as a tool to support process of revitalization in modern cities. The analysis is based on published studies of examples of temporary use in Berlin, which became a „transformation laboratory”. We found turn of urban policy towards temporary use, as a result of reformulation of a way of thinking about the city. The birth of a new logic is pointed in three dimensions. It occurred through the notice and co-operation with spaces (voids), actors (guerrilla) and the recognition of management methods (open-source urbanism), which has so far operated outside the official discourse. Temporary use, previously considered as a manifestation of disorder (chaos), became the basis for the construction of new image of the city – creative city.
