The architecture of the town wall gates and towers in Bystrzyca Kłodzka between the fourteenth and twentieth centuries

The results of research into two city gates, Kłodzka and Wodna (Water), and into the Rycerska (Knight’s) Tower in Bystrzyca Kłodzka are discussed in this paper. The research into the architecture of the three structures helped review the chronology of transformations they were subjected to between the beginning of the fourteenth century and the second half of the twentieth century. The city walls, together with the two gates and the tower, were probably erected by Alderman Jakub Rücker in the first half of the fourteenth century. All the towers were probably raised and converted in the fifteenth century and in around 1568, they were topped with masonry pyramid cupolas. The work performed in the nineteenth century was aimed at restoring the damaged elements and at introducing bells to the Rycerska (Knight’s) Tower. The conservation work conducted in the years 2013–2017 resulted in the restoration of the damaged details and in the enhancement of all of the structures’ features of historical value.

Artykuł omawia wyniki badań dwóch bram miejskich: Kłodzkiej i Wodnej oraz wieży Rycerskiej w Bystrzycy Kłodzkiej. Bazując na badaniach architektonicznych trzech obiektów możliwe było przeanalizowanie chronologii ich przemian w okresie od początku XIV do II połowy XX wieku. Przypuszczalnie w pierwszej połowie XIV wieku wójt Jakub Rücker wzniósł mury miejskie z dwoma bramami i wieżą. W XV wieku prawdopodobnie wszystkie wieże podwyższono i przebudowano a w około 1568 roku zwieńczono murowanymi ostrosłupowymi hełmami. Prace zrealizowane w XIX wieku miały na celu odtworzenie zniszczonych elementów oraz wprowadzenie w wieży Rycerskiej - dzwonów. Podczas prac konserwatorskich zrealizowanych w latach 2013–2017 przywrócono zniszczony detal oraz wyeksponowano zatarte formy historyczne wszystkich obiektów.

The Analysis of Landscape Exposures of Entry Roads to the City on the Example of Southern Wrocław

Landscape exposure of city entry roads is a widely discussed issue in the debate on Polish spatial problems. This article presents an attempt to identify objects on a selected area, located at the edge of two landscape interiors, one of which is characterized by urban landscape features. These sitesmight be regarded as as landscape city gates. The discussed problem has a complex nature, combining the issues of landscape architecture, spatial planning, psychology of perception and urban marketing. The urban transect method, based on the conducted research walk, was used for the investigation purposes. The most important conclusion resulting from the research part suggests that the function of city entrance gates may be performed by infrastructure elements such as bridges, viaducts and tunnels. Due to their location, it must be important to ensure that they are of adequate and representative character. The article encourages to reflect on legibility of the city and the landscape seen from the road.

Ekspozycja krajobrazowa dróg wjazdowych do miasta to temat często poruszany w dyskusji dotyczącej problemów polskiej przestrzeni. W niniejszym artykule opisano próbę wytypowania na wybranym obszarze obiektów znajdujących się na styku dwóch wnętrz krajobrazowych, z których jedno reprezentowane jest przez cechy krajobrazu miejskiego. Miejsca takie mogłyby zostać uznane za krajobrazowe bramy do miasta. Poruszony problem cechuje złożony charakter, łączący w sobie zagadnienia architektury krajobrazu, gospodarki przestrzennej, psychologii percepcji i marketingu miejskiego. Do realizacji badania zastosowano metodę transektu miejskiego na podstawie przeprowadzonego spaceru badawczego. Najważniejszym wnioskiem wynikającym z części badawczej jest sugestia, że funkcję krajobrazowej bramy miejskiej mogą pełnić takie elementy infrastruktury jak mosty, wiadukty czy tunele. Z uwagi na ich położenie istotnym powinno być zapewnienie im należytego, reprezentatywnego charakteru. Artykuł skłania do refleksji na temat czytelności miasta oraz krajobrazu widzianego z drogi.
