This paper presents possibilities of using circular motion deviation measurement to evaluate the accuracy of production machines e.g. lathes. This method is known as circular interpolation test of numerically controlled axes. Categories of identified errors are described, as well as derived general indicators, assembly errors, geometrical, kinematic, motion errors and possibilities of electronic compensations. Examples of error diagnosis are given. On the basis of over 150 lathes tested, conclusions are drawn on usability of both test and derived indicators to evaluate the machining accuracy of lathes.
