Content available remote Joining of steel sheets for automotive industry using press joining method

The paper deals with joining of steel sheets for automotive industry using press joining method. This method is a relatively new technique of car body sheets joining which is beginning to find its place in the automotive industry as an alternative to resistance spot welding, especially in joining materials of different qualities. Combination of two hot-dip galvanized steel sheets: microalloyed steel sheet H220PD of the thickness 0,8 mm and TRIP steel 40/70+Z100MBO of the thickness 0,77 mm were used for the experiments. The tensile test and metalographical analysis were used for evaluation of the press joints properties. The influence of the sheet's position in press joining of used materials on carrying capacity considering the active parts of the tool - punch and die was observed.

The requirement for reducing of weight of products urges the producers to reducing thickness of used materials. It means the reducing of thickness of products from sheet. The second requirement for product is its adequate stiffness. These requirements force product manufacturers from sheet material to ask for development of sheets with higher strength properties and formability from sheet producers. The properties of sheet must guarantee deep- drawing of stampings without problems, but with required qualitative and dimensional parameters. The contribution solves the problem of deep drawing of bath tubes and pressability of steel sheets used at the production of bath tubes. The thickness of used steel sheets were changed from 1,55 mm to presented 1,35 mm. This change had an influence on the required properties of steel sheets and also the changes of technological conditions of deep drawing. The next surface finishing of pressing - bath tube requires the roughness of surface in the defined boundary.

W artykule przedstawiono nowe niskoenergetyczne warianty spawania łukowego w osłonie gazów, które znajdują zastosowanie w łączeniu cienkich blach stalowych z powłokami lub bez powłok ochronnych. Opisane innowacyjne procesy CMT {Cold Metal Transfer), ColdArc, STT {Surface Tension Transfer) i CBT {Controlled Bridge Transfer) stosowane są w produkcji nowoczesnych urządzeń przemysłowych i wyrobów powszechnego użytku, gdzie ważne jest znaczenie takich czynników, jak estetyka, masa własna i łatwość wytwarzania. Nowe metody spawania MIG/MAG mają ważną wspólną cechę: umożliwiają zdecydowaną poprawę jakości spawania materiałów o małej grubości w porównaniu z konwencjonalnym spawaniem łukiem zwarciowym, pozwalają znacząco zmniejszyć ilość ciepła wprowadzanego do materiału, a precyzyjna kontrola łuku i przenoszenia metalu w dużym stopniu zmniejsza ilość rozprysków.

The paper presents new low-energetic variants of gas shielded metal-arc welding, which are applied for joining the steel sheets with/ without coats. The innovative processes: Cold Metal Transfer, ColdArc, Surface Tension Transfer and Controlled Bridge Transfer are used in manufacturing of industrial appliances and commonly used products, when the weight, aesthetics and easiness of production are important. These new methods have certain important features: enable emphatic improving of the quality of welding of thin metal sheets comparing to standard dip-transfer arc, substantially reduce the heat input to the welded metal, and to decrease the amount of spatter by the precise control of arc and metal transfer.

Forming limit curves of deep drawing steel sheets have been determined experimentally and calculated on the base of the material tensile properties folIowing the Hill, Swift, Marciniak-Kuczyński and Sing-Rao methods. Only the FLC modelled from a singly linear forming limit stress curve exhibits good agreement with experimental curve. It was established that a linearized limit stress locus describes adequately the actual localised neck conditions for the material chosen in this study. The quantitative X-ray microanalysis of the Fe contents in the sheet surface layer composition was used to determine cracking limit curve (CLC) of electro-galvanized steel sheet. The change in zinc layer (and base sheet metal) thickness was used as a criteria in calculation of the CLC.

FeCr17 ferritic stainless steel sheets, after cold rolling and annealing, exhibits ridging in the case of rolling direction elongation. The resulting deterioration in surface quality is a serve and long known problem in industrial processing. This problem is here investigated by the SEM-EBSD technique (Electron Backscattering Diffraction in the Scanning Electron Microscope). The results of the single orientation analysis suggest that to clarify the origin of the ridging morphology ealier models such as that elaborated by Wright (4) can be adopted.

In resistance spot welding, joining of the common contact surface of two sheet materials is quite complicated interaction of electrical, thermal, mechanical, metallurgical and surface phenomena. In this study, finite element analysis were employed to determine, the cooling times, the temperature distributions in both electrode and workpiece during cooling and the deformation behaviour of both tapered conical shaped electrode and workpiece during weld cycle.
