Twórczość Kazimierza Bieńkowskiego (1907-1993), znakomitego rzeźbiarza, twórcy architektury wnętrz prezbiteriów kościołów na terenie Pomorza Zachodniego, nie była dotychczas przedmiotem badań. Niniejszy tekst stanowi przyczynek do opracowania dzieł sztuki tego artysty, wypełniając jednocześnie postulat badawczy dotyczący rozwijania wiedzy na temat dziejów współczesnej sztuki sakralnej w Polsce po 1945 roku, zwłaszcza w kontekście zmian liturgicznych po Soborze Watykańskim II.

Kazimierz Bieńkowski, an eminent sculptor active basically in Poznań, where he was a professor in the High School of Art (now University of Fine Arts), created a number of pictures and interior designs in churches in West Pomerania. His first work there was the tomb of the bishop Teodor Bensh in the Gorzów Wielkopolski cathedral in 1958. During 1964-1965 Bieńkowski created sgrafitto scenes as part of the presbitery design in the parochial church in Łobez, which seems to be one of the first arrangement following the Vatican II Council liturgical requirements in Poland. Sgraffito technique was prevailing in a series of the interior wall paintings by the artist, e.g. churches in Szczecin and Police. Prestigious work Bieńkowski effected in the seventies and eighties in the cathedral in Szczecin: composition of the presbytery including the altar, the bishops’ chair (cathedra) and stalls. He also painted (oil on canvas) 14 pictures of Via Crucis there. The paper presents an intitial outline of the oeuvre of Kazimierz Bieńkowski, thus fulfilling the knowledge of artistic life in West Pomerania after 1945.
