Commercial chrome-silico-manganese alloy steel was submitted to an austempering processes with isothermal quenching at different temperature of: 310, 400, and 450°C. Treatments resulted in obtaining microstructure composed of the carbide-free bainite and retained austenite. Attempts to evaluate the quantities of bainitic ferrite and retained austenite were made on the basis of dilatometric studies and microscopic observations with the use of transmission electron microscope. It was shown, that different temperature of heat treatment give different phase composition and morphology. An increase in isothermal quenching temperature from 310°C to 400°C causes slight increase in bainitic ferrite grain size and higher amount of retained austenite. Exceeding specific limit temperature of the treatment results in significant increase in bainitic ferrite grain size and the formation of blocks of austenite, which underwent martensitic transformation during cooling to the room temperature, subsequently decreasing the amount of retained austenite.

Handlowa stal chromowo-krzemowo-manganowa poddana została obróbce hartowania z przystankiem izotermicznym w różnej temperaturze: 310, 400 i 450°C. Zwiększenie temperatury obróbki hartowania z przystankiem izotermicznym z 310°C do 400°C powoduje nieznaczny rozrost ziarna bainitu oraz zwiększenie zawartości austenitu szczątkowego w stali. Przekroczenie pewnej granicznej temperatury obróbki powoduje znaczny rozrost ziaren ferrytu i powstawanie austenitu w formie bloków, które podczas chłodzenia do temperatury pokojowej ulegają przemianie martenzytycznej, w wyniku której zawartość austenitu szczątkowego zmniejsza się.
