The paper discusses new generation chimney system sused in single-family housing and collective housing and their impact on the environment. The advantages and disadvantages of individual solutions as well as the criteria determining the selection of the appropriate solution are given. The analysis was based on Polish standards.

Zanieczyszczenie powietrza stanowi duży problem w Polsce i na świecie, w szczególności w okresie grzewczym. Duża część zanieczyszczeń powstaje w wyniku eksploatacji urządzeń grzewczych. Taka sytuacja zmusiła producentów systemów kominowych do opracowywania nowych bardziej ekologicznych urządzeń i wyrobów. Często nowe rozwiązania w technice grzewczej i kominowej są następstwem realizacji prac badawczych. W artykule omówiono wpływ konstrukcji i wyposażenia komina na emisję zanieczyszczeń z instalacji grzewczych.

Air pollution is a big problem in Poland and worldwide, especially during the heating season. A significant proportion of the pollution comes from the operation of heating equipment. This situation forced the producers of chimney systems to develop new, more environmentally friendly devices and products. New solutions in heating and chimney technology are often a result of conducting research. The article discusses the impact the chimney structure and equipment have on the emission of pollutants from heating systems.

Purpose: The article presents an application of FMEA method in a process of chimney system production. The analysis allowed to decrease a potential defects and their effects in the analysed process. Design/methodology/approach: The technical analysis of the process of chimney system production indicated many defects in the product. Based on the FMEA results (value of RPN – Risk Priority Number) corrective and preventive actions were proposed. These actions decrease RPN level by half. Findings: In this paper characteristics of the chimney system and technical analysis of its production process were presented. Failure mode and effects analysis for selected operations of the production process was performed. Practical implications: In the analysed process are possible the nonconformities above the appointed RPN level, because they are dependent on applied technology and machinery. Increase of a quantity of control points and training employees caused a reduction of manufacturing costs, improvement of the product quality and creation of the possibility of effective quality control. Originality/value: FMEA analysis is an effective tool for identification, determination of a risk level, planning and implementation of corrective and preventive actions to decrease a quantity of defects in the final product. Periodic application of this method enables the continuous improvement of the processes and products in enterprises

Skała wulkaniczna stanowi doskonały surowiec, który nie wymaga znaczących modyfikacji. Zastosowana do wytwarzania bloków kominowych sprawia, że charakteryzują się one dobrymi parametrami izolacyjnymi oraz wysoką odpornością na działanie kwasów. W pracy zbadano skład fazowy i mikrostrukturę naturalnej skały wulkanicznej pochodzącej z wciąż czynnego wulkanu Stromboli oraz bloku kominowego, zawierającego w swym składzie skałę wulkaniczną pochodzącą z Irlandii. Uzyskane wyniki analizy porównawczej wykazały, że w badanych skałach wulkanicznych występują różnice w składzie fazowym.

Volcanic rock is an excellent resource that does not require significant modification. Used for the production of chimney blocks, it makes them to have good insulating characteristics and high resistance to acids. The study investigated the phase composition and microstructure of both natural volcanic rock derived from the still active volcano of Stromboli and a chimney block, which contained in its composition a volcanic rock that originated from Ireland. Phase compositions of the volcanic rock and the building material used in the chimney systems were different.
