In this paper the results of numerical studies on natural vibration frequency and stability of a slender supporting system loaded by external force directed towards a positive pole are presented. In the investigated structure the failure in the form of crack is present. The boundary problem is formulated on the basis of the principle of minimum action – Hamilton’s principle. The results in the non-dimensional form are plotted as the characteristic curves in the external load – natural vibration frequency plane as well as the maximum loading capacity is discussed.

In this study the fixed-fixed column subjected to axial Euler’s load has been investigated. The load is placed between the fixed ends of the structure and its location can be changed along column’s length. The boundary problem of free vibrations of the mentioned system has been formulated on the basis of Bernoulli – Euler theory and taking into account non-linear axial deformation relationship. Due to non-linear expressions the solution of the problem was done with small parameter method. In the paper the change of the first vibration frequency in relation to location and magnitude of the loading force was obtained. The relationship between natural vibration frequency and the amplitude is also discussed.

In this paper the single-rod cantilever column subjected to compressive Euler's load is investigated. The boundary problem has been formulated on the basis of Hamilton's principle and Timoshenko's theory. Numerical simulations of characteristic curves have been plotted on the plane external load-vibration frequency for different magnitudes of slenderness factor of the system. The results of numerical calculations of Timoshenko's beam are compared to the ones obtained from mathematical Bernoulli-Euler's model. The comparison of the results of characteristic curves calculated by means of Timoshenko's theory and Bernoulli-Euler's model are done for first three vibration frequencies.

The method of determination of props stiffness in relation to their structure there is presented in the paper. Comparison of stiffness characteristic curves of different prop solutions at the same range of longwall height is shown. These characteristics are basis of calculation of powered roof support units load under certain roof convergence. Analysis of obtained characteristics has proved that the set pressure of powered roof support unit under certain mining conditions should be done on basis of load characteristic curve, depending on props stiffness, structure of support unit and longwall height.

The cauchy problem for a quasilinear hyperbolic systems with coefficients functionally dependent on the solutions is studied. We assume that the coefficients are continuous nonlinear operators in the Banach space C1 (R) satisfying some additional assumptions. Under these assumptions we prove the uniqueness and existence of local in time C1 solutions, provided that the initial data are also of class C1.

The paper presents new theorems about characteristic curves on the surface used as a shape smoothness diagnosis tool. First, general principles of examination of characteristic curves, treated as contour lines of a shape function, are presented. Two subsequent sections deal with properties of two most popular characteristic curves: equigradient lines and reflection lines. The theorems presented there are a theoretical background for evaluation of the surface continuity via of examination of these type of lines.
