A model of the structure formation during solidification of ceramic on the metalic substrate has been worked out. The 2D and 3D types of structure have been taken into account in the model. The model contains also the layer of chilled fine structure from the side of air as well as amorphous layer from the side of Ni-substrate. Additionally, a model for solute microsegregation and solute redistribution has been developed to describe the behaviour of solute within the three regions of 2D and 3D structures formation. The model allowed for selecting the measurement points, which can be interpreted by means of the equations, which take into account both partitioning and back-diffusion. An influence of solidification rate on partition ratio has also been taken into account in calculation. The theoretical curves of solute redistribution have been plotted to fit selected measurement points. The curves of solute redistribution allowed to determine the back-diffusion parameter for the three sub-layers visible within the morphology obtained during the atmospheric plasma spraying and solidification of ZrO2-Y2O3 ceramic on the Ni-substrate.
