Novel semiconductive materials containing TiO2 dispersion, doped with zinc and additional modifying salts of Cu2+, Fe2+, and Co2+, have been obtained. Such materials can be used as effective catalysts in the Cu2+ reduction. Exposition to UV-light followed by the dark storage leads to complex changes of the catalytic activity of TiO2products. Detailed character of the changes depends on the presence of a doping agent and on the nature of modifying salts' anion. The scheme of the electron transfer processes has been proposed to describe changes of the activity.

It has been found that modification of TiO2 by impregnation with Pd2+, Cu2+, Fe2+, Fe3+ and Co2+ salts causes a significant rise of its catalytic activity in the reaction of metal copper deposition. Influence of nature of modifying cation, its concentration, counter-anion concentration and the effect of double modification by two different salts have also been investigated. Comparison of energetic characteristics of all intermediate compounds led us to a possible model of catalytic deposition of copper, explaining the increased catalytic activity of the modified examples.
