A simple, selective, and precise stability-indicating reversed-phase liquid chromatographic method was developed and validated for the determination of nilotinib. Nilotinib was subjected to acid and alkali hydrolysis, oxidation, thermal, and photo-degradation. The degradation products were well separated from the pure drug. The method was based on isocratic elution of nilotinib and its degradation products on reversed phase C18 column (100 mm × 4.6 mm, 3.5 μm) — Zorbax Eclipse Plus using a mobile phase consisting of 10 mM KH2PO4:acetonitrile (54.5:45.5%, v/v) at a flow rate of 1 mL min−1. Quantitation was achieved with UV detection at 265 nm. Linearity, accuracy and precision were found to be acceptable over the concentration range of 0.1–80 μg mL−1. The drug was found to be susceptible to acid and base hydrolysis but resistant to oxidation, dry heat degradation, and photodegradation. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of nilotinib in bulk and in its pharmaceutical preparation.

The process of formation of silica shells around emulsion droplets was investigated. The 1H-NMR spectroscopy was applied to follow the silica shell formation around emulsion droplets by hydrolysis and condensation of selected silanes in the emulsion system. (3- aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APS) and dimethyloctadecyl [3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl] ammonium chloride (DTSACl) were used as silica sources in microencapsulation process. The NMR analysis revealed strong dependence of the hydrolysis reaction rate on pH. Obtained information allowed selecting the optimal conditions for the formation of the capsules with silica shells. The obtained capsules' suspensions were stable for several weeks.

W artykule omówiono charakterystykę i wykorzystanie pullulanu w przemyśle spożywczym. Został on niedawno zatwierdzony przez Unię Europejską jako dodatek do żywności i dopuszczony do stosowania w Polsce. Wskazano na unikatowe cechy pullulanu oraz możliwości użycia go w postaci kapsułek, powłok i filmów. Przedstawiono także wyniki badań naukowych stwierdzające, że pullulan może być stosowany w żywności przeznaczonej dla diabetyków i osób odchudzających się.

The characteristic and pullulan utilization in food industry is presented in the paper. Recently pullulan was confirmed by the European Union as food additive and admitted to applying in Poland. Unique properties of pullulan are pointed out as well as the possibilities of utilization in the form of capsules, coatings and films. The results of scientific investigations, which proved the positive effect of pullulan incorporated into the food products for diabetics and persons losing weight are also presented.

Formation of complexes, host-guest systems and capsules is also presented along with their possible applications. Ashort comment concerning pyrogalloarenes is added. In the paper references are cited of works that appeared during the years 1998-2003.
