W artykule przedstawiono studium przypadku ilustrujące typowe problemy użytkowników starszych domów jednorodzinnych w aspekcie pracy tradycyjnej wentylacji grawitacyjnej. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, że przyczyną powstawania tzw. wstecznych ciągów, oprócz czynników pogodowych, może być wpływ urządzeń mechanicznych wymuszających ciąg w przewodach wentylacyjnych (okap kuchenny) lub dymowych (dmuchawa kotła c.o.). Zwrócono również uwagę na potrzebę częstych przeglądów skuteczności wentylacji, aby wyeliminować pewne prozaiczne powody jej nieskuteczności.

The article presents a case study illustrating typical problems of users of older single-family houses in the aspect of traditional gravitational ventilation. Based on the conducted research, it was found that the cause of the so-called backdrafts, apart from weather factors, may be caused by the influence of mechanical devices forcing draft in ventilation ducts (kitchen hood) or smoke ducts (central heating boiler blower). Attention was also drawn to the need for frequent reviews of the effectiveness of ventilation to eliminate some prosaic reasons for its ineffectiveness.

Działania diagnostyczne w ramach oceny stanu technicznego obiektów budowlanych wynikać mogą zarówno z brzmienia obowiązujących przepisów prawa, jak również z doraźnych potrzeb związanych z eksploatacją i zarządzaniem obiektem budowlanym. Prowadzenie tych działań w sposób rzetelny i systematyczny pozwala utrzymać wymagany poziom bezpieczeństwa oraz jest racjonalnym narzędziem w gospodarce remontowej. Współczesne narzędzia badawcze umożliwiają stosowanie zaawansowanych technik diagnostycznych w inżynierskiej praktyce budowlanej. W artykule omówiono rolę diagnostyki technicznej w utrzymaniu obiektów budowlanych, odnosząc się do przykładów z praktyki inżynierskiej.

Diagnostic activities as part of the assessment of the technical condition of buildings may result both from the applicable legal regulations as well as from the immediate needs related to the operation and management of a building facility. Conducting these activities in a reliable and systematic manner allows to maintain the required level of safety and is a rational tool in the renovation economy. Modern research tools enable the use of advanced diagnostic techniques in engineering construction practice. The article discusses the role of technical diagnostics in the maintenance of buildings, referring to examples from engineering practice.

The goal of the research was to determine of average asbestos dust values in different types of buildings and possible deviations from these values, when taking measurements in different rooms of the same building. Variability of fibres concentration was analyzed over short periods of time in different places of tested building. The study included various types of buildings containing asbestos, typical for Central and Eastern European countries with different construction. An analysis was made of the reasons for the diversity of dust concentrations ranging from < 300 to 16,000 fibres/m3 in connection with the building structure, asbestos location, degree of damage and intensity of building exploitation. Properly operated residential buildings containing asbestos inside outer sandwich walls features low concentration of dust < 300–400 f/m3. Novelty: Buildings not yet described by the literature were examined, as well as so-called emergency situations not related to the correct proceedings. This knowledge is necessary for the selection of technology in dismantling works and whether it is appropriate to remove asbestos from a given structure.

Drewno było, jest i będzie cennym materiałem budowlanym. W artykule podjęto próbę potwierdzenia tej tezy, przedstawiając wyniki Oceny Cyklu Życia (LCA) trzech budynków modelowych. Obiektywną miarą potwierdzono korzyści środowiskowe stosowania drewna i materiałów drewnopochodnych w budownictwie. Jednocześnie potwierdzono, że z uwagi na oddziaływania na środowisko szczególnie istotny jest okres użytkowania obiektów i rodzaj nośników energii wykorzystywanych do ogrzewania.

Wood was, is and will be a valuable building material. The article attempts to confirm this thesis by presenting the results of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of three model buildings. The environmental benefits of using wood and wood-based materials in construction were confirmed by objective measure. At the same time, it was confirmed that due to the environmental impacts, the use stage of buildings and the type of energy carriers used for heating are of particular importance.
