Powszechnie mówi się dziś o degradacji krajobrazu wsi polskiej, o zatraceniu ciągłości kulturowej w kreowaniu przestrzeni wsi, o upadku zespołów podworskich i zaniku tradycji w zabudowie chłopskiej. Objawy te obserwuje się obecnie z niepokojem. Należy jednak zauważyć pewne, z pozoru mało istotne, ale pozytywne zjawisko, które ma szeroki zasięg i niebagatelne znaczenie dla oblicza polskiejzabudowy wiejskiej. Idzie tu o zastosowanie miejscowych materiałów do tworzenia zindywidualizowanej zabudowy w regionie.

Observations were carried out in regions of the country which are united by the occurance of natural resources such as limestone. Limestone was shaped by hand with an axe, keeping an eye on the outer surface of the building. The finishing off of the wall edge was made easier by using baked ceramic brick. Brick details are first of all window framings, lintels, corners and cornices. For reasons of aesthetics there also appeared decorative details such as: smooth and cubed friezes, motives of the cross, rhombic ornaments of the rosette. This type of outer walls' construction - applied at least to the end of the 19th century - has been so strongly established in building tradition as to influence modern building. Erections are at present raised of different material - white silicate brick or cement blocks - however, the same elevation finishing methods are used as well as identical colour composition. In other regions colour effects were obtained, for instance, by the composition of local dark-coloured stone with brick, etc.
