The construction of buildings necessitating deep excavations, particularly the ones located in populated areas, involves many challenges. During the investment preparation and delivery process, cooperation between specialists of different fields is indispensable. These must include geotechnicians, starting from the initial stage of works. In this article, based on experiences gained in the course of projects and geotechnical analyses, together with the delivery of works, construction conditions of projects involving deep excavations in populated areas have been presented. Due to a great number of possible examples, we have not presented specific situations, but focused on universal principles which should apply to any underground construction site.

Projektowanie i realizacja budynków z wielokondygnacyjnymi podziemiami w warunkach zwartej zabudowy miejskiej należy do najtrudniejszych zagadnień inżynierskich. Wymaga rozszerzenia zakresu analiz i badań o istniejące obiekty (budynki, infrastrukturę techniczną) usytuowane w strefie spodziewanych oddziaływań (wpływu) wykonania nowego budynku. Artykuł ocenia wpływ realizacji obiektu głęboko posadowionego na przemieszczenia podłoża gruntowego i analizuje wpływ odkształceń podłoża na stan techniczny zabudowy.

The author of the article focuses on designing and construction of deep foundations buildings with multistory underground spaces in dense urban areas. Such constructions are among the most challenging engineering tasks. They require broadening the range of research and ground analysis and including all the existing objects and technical infrastructure in order to asses the impact the new construction will have on them.

W artykule omówiono podstawowe zagadnienia związane z projektowaniem i wykonawstwem garaży podziemnych. Problem ujęto w następujących rozdziałach: uwarunkowania mające wpływ na wybór rodzaju obudowy wykopu i technologii realizacji, przemieszczenia poziome obudów wykopów, realizacja budynków głęboko posadowionych w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie istniejącej zabudowy, realizacja budynków głęboko posadowionych w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie podobnych budynków wzniesionych w ostatniej dekadzie, jednoczesna realizacja dwóch budynków głęboko posadowionych z obu stron istniejącej starej zabudowy.

The article discusses fundamental problems relevant to designing and realization of underground parking sites (garages). The problem has been considered in the following sections: conditions having influence on selection of the type of lining of the excavtion and technology of its realization, horizontal displacement of the excavations' linings, construction of buildings deeply founded in a direct vicinity of the existing building development, construction of buildings deeply founded in a direct vicinity of similar buildings erected in the last decade, simultaneous realization of two buildings deeply founded on two sides of the existing old building development.
