The purpose of the article is a comparison between DC/DC topologies with a wide input voltage range. The research also explains how the implementation of GaN E-HEMT transistors influences the overall efficiency of the converter. The article presents a process of selection of the most efficient topology for stabilization of the battery storage voltage (9 V – 36 V) at the level of 24 V, which enables the usage of ultracapacitor energy storage in a wide range of applications, e.g., in automated electric vehicles. In order to choose the most suitable topology, simulation and laboratory research were conducted. The two most promising topologies were selected for verification in the experimental model. Each of the converters was constructed in two versions: with Si and with GaN E-HEMT transistors. The paper presents experimental research results that consist of precise power loss measurements and thermal analysis. The performance with an increased switching frequency of converters was also examined.

In this paper, a new interleaved switched-capacitor bidirectional DC-DC converter with a high step-up/step-down voltage gain is proposed. In this converter, two inductors, four capacitors and four semiconductors are used. The voltage gain of the proposed converter is higher than conventional converters such as buck-boost, boost, Cuk and is compared with some new converters. In order to reduce the ripple of the current through the low-voltage side, an interleaved structure is adopted in the low-voltage side of this converter. Furthermore, the equations of the voltage, the voltage stress for switches and currents are presented in different modes. To verify the operation of the proposed converter, the experimental results are provided.

Various models of DC-DC converters have been presented in many references. This paper provides extended version of a common transfer functions (line-tooutput, control-to-output) of three most popular DC-DC converters BUCK, BOOST and BUCK-BOOST. The extension includes all parasitic resistances and additional voltage source created after linearization of diode characteristic.

A technique for selecting the element values of the PWM AC chopper circuits to improve the input power factor is presented. This technique analyzes the phase angles of input current, output current and voltage for selecting the optimal value of the filter capacitance. This produces the phase angle of input current in phase with that of input voltage. Therefore, the PWM AC chopper can operate at unity input power factor. The simulation by PSpice program and experimental results are used to verify the proposed technique.

Zaprezentowano metodę selekcji elementów choppera PWM AC w celu poprawy wejściowego współczynnika mocy. Metoda polega na analizie kąta fazowego prądu wejściowego, prądu wyjściowego i napięcia w celu optymalizacji pojemności filtru. Dzięki temu chopper pracuje przy współczynniku mocy równym 1.

EN
A single-stage LED driver for the street lighting is proposed. The system consists of a constant current circuit and a constant voltage circuit, and the constant voltage circuit is gotten by integrating a buck-boost circuit and a flyback circuit. The peak current control mode is adopted in the constant current circuit which is a boost circuit and works in PWM mode. The theoretical analysis and design procedures of the proposed lighting system are proposed and discussed in detail in the paper.

The separation of variables approach to formulate the averaged models of DC-DC switch-mode power converters is presented in the paper. The proposed method is applied to basic converters such as BUCK, BOOST and BUCK-BOOST. The ideal converters or converters with parasitic resistances, working in CCM and in DCM mode are considered. The models are presented in the form of equation systems for large signal, steady-state and small-signal case. It is shown, that the models obtained by separation of variables approach differ in some situations from standard models based on switch averaging method.

The averaged models of switch-mode DC-DC power converters are discussed. Two methods of averaged model derivation are considered - the first, based on statespace averaging and the second, on the switch averaging approach. The simplest converters: BUCK, BOOST and BUCK-BOOST working in CCM (continuous conduction mode) or DCM are taken as examples in detailed considerations. Apart from the ideal converters, the more realistic case of converters with parasitic resistances is analyzed. The switch averaging approach is used more frequently than the other and is believed to be more convenient in practical applications. It is shown however, that in the deriving the averaged models based on the switch-averaging approach, some informalities have been made, which may be the source of errors in the case of converters with parasitic resistances, or working in DCM mode.

In this paper it is proposed a unity power factor isolated three-phase rectifier with buck-boost characteristics. This rectifier is based on the Scott transformer and only uses two single-phase buck-boost rectifiers. In this way only two switches are used. To achieve sinusoidal input current and high power factor, a fast and robust pulse width sliding mode modulation of the input current is proposed. An output voltage compensator is also used to establish the amplitude of the reference currents. Several results are presented in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed rectifier.

W artykule przedstawiono izolowany prostownik trójfazowy o jednostkowym współczynniku mocy i charakterystyce typu Buck-boost. Prostownik ten powstał na bazie układu transformatora Scotta z zastosowaniem tylko dwóch jednofazowych prostowników Buck-boost. Tym sposobem ograniczono ilość użytych kluczy do dwóch. W celu osiągnięcia sinusoidalnego prądu wejściowego i wysokiej wartości współczynnika mocy, zaproponowano szybką i stabilną modulację szerokościową ze sterowaniem ślizgowym prądu wejściowego. Kompensator napięcia wyjściowego jest użyty w celu ustalenia amplitudy prądów referencyjnych. Wybrane rezultaty zaprezentowano w celu zobrazowania efektywności proponowanego prostownika.
