Aerosol flow and particle deposition in the anatomical cast of human upper airways (mouth-throat-pharynx) were studied using CFD. Temporal and spatial distributions of the deposition efficiency for particles in the range of 0.3-10 micrometers were obtained. Computational results were compared with experimental data obtained using the silicon cast - and programmable pump ("artificial lung")- The meaning of the results for toxicology and pharmacology (inhalation therapy) was discussed.
