The article presents the stone pavement of the streets of Poznań's Chwaliszewo, a small district located between Ostrów Tumski and the Old Town. The text describes the current condition of the historic pavement and the historical constraints that have influenced its present condition. The historic surface of several streets in Chwaliszewo consists mainly of granite blocks and erratics.

Road construction relies on natural material exploitation and it is necessary to find new ways of reducing its negative environmental impact. Simultaneously, number of tyres placed on Croatian (and world) market is constantly growing and the need for waste tyres management will begin to increase due to the wear and tear of tyres in use at the moment. This paper presents a review of latest international and domestic researches on waste rubber application in road construction with special emphasize on Croatian researches within this topic. Preliminary results of ongoing research on waste rubber application in cement bound mixtures are also presented.

The article describes stone pavements forming the surface of the Old Market Square in Poznań. In the context of postulates of replacement of a historical stone surface with modern paving, the authors took the position that the quality as well as the amount of existing rock material is fully sufficient to carry out its renovation. First and foremost, it should concern the existing granite-gneiss, and more rarely basalt, quartz and porphyry paving stones, as well as granite paving slabs and granite curb stones.

The article presents several examples of historical fragments of streets of Poznań in the so-called Upper City with preserved granite gutters, stone pavements with cube dimensions 18 X 20 cm and 10 X 20 cm. Attention was also paid to the presence of setts made of basalt basin, as well as to the roads paved with fieldstone. These increasingly rare fragments of metropolitan streets should be subject to historical and architectural protection. They should be treated as the historic fabric of every city with a long and significant tradition.

Identification of material parameters of polymer used in expansion joints in airfield concrete slabs

The mechanical parameters of polymer have to be properly identified in order to numerically predict the stiffness of the Polymer Flexible Joint (PFJ), which can be used in expansion joints in precast concrete pavements. The material used in PFJ previously has been often identified as hyperelastic. This work presents the results of an identification of PM-type polymer, used in PFJ. The parameters were calculated based on the results of new laboratory experimental tests of plain polymer. The accuracy of performed identification has been shown by comparison of calculated and experimentally tested data for mediumsized PFJ specimens.

Dylatacje w prefabrykowanych nawierzchniach betonowych mogą być poddawane silnemu ściskaniu spowodowanemu wysoką wartością rocznych amplitud temperatur. Obciążenie to może wywoływać koncentrację naprężeń w konstrukcji nawierzchni, co w rezultacie może prowadzić do uszkodzenia betonu. W ramach prac badawczych poświęconych Polimerowemu Złączu Podatnemu (PZP) sprawdzane jest, czy technologia może być stosowana w prefabrykowanych nawierzchniach betonowych. W pracy zaprezentowano weryfikację doświadczalną pracy mechanicznej złącza. Próbki obciążono siłą ściskającą, która może występować w konstrukcji poddanej obciążeniom termicznym. Przebadano 20 próbek PZP poddanych ściskaniu o wymiarach boków prostokątnego przekroju poprzecznego wynoszących od 100 mm do 400 mm. Badania prowadzono do maksymalnego odkształcenia inżynierskiego w polimerze o wartości 80%. Wszystkie próbki zamodelowano w pakiecie obliczeniowym Abaqus 6.12, bazując na Metodzie Elementów Skończonych. Porównano numeryczne i eksperymentalne wyniki badań. Pokazano różnice w wynikach dla modeli numerycznych bazujących na różnych parametrach materiałowych.

For many centuries, both the rulers and road constructors have been looking for the best and most economical technological solutions for the pavement of roads and streets, meeting certain requirements. The search is focused on proper materials to be applied, as well as technological solutions that facilitate rapid construction of the pavement, regardless of weather conditions.

W artykule zaprezentowano krótki rys historyczny budowy dróg brukowanych. Przedstawiono rodzaje bruków i sposób ich zabudowy. Opisano najczęściej występujące problemy związane z eksploatacją tego typu powierzchni. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na dobór odpowiednich materiałów i prawidłowy sposób montażu kostki brukowej. Zaprezentowano najnowocześniejsze rozwiązania w tej dziedzinie oraz przykłady zastosowania rozwiązań systemowych firmy Sopro w naszym kraju.

In the paper was presented a short description how to form a paving. There were showed different kinds of paving and the ways of making it. There were also showed the most common problems connected with an operating that kind of surface. A special attention was paid to the right way of a montage and to selection of suitable materials. The most modern solutions in this domain with examples of using the Sopro system solutions were presented in our country.
