Imidazole aminophosphonic and imidazole aminophosphinic acids were synthesized by treatment of imidazole aldimines with silylated phosphorus acid esters. The aldimines were obtained from corresponding imidazolecarboxaldehydes and primary amines.

Heterocyclic derivatives of aminomethylphosphonic acid were obtained in a one-pot procedure, by treatment of the corresponding heterocyclic aldimines with a mixture of trimethyl phosphite and bromotrimethylsilane (BrTMS). A reagent for phosphorylation of the imines in this case was the tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphite, formed in situ in a reaction mixture. The silylated esters formed were hydrolyzed to the final aminophosphonic acids.

Application of bromotrimethylsilane (Br-TMS) in a mixture with trialkyl phosphite for synthesis of various aminophosphonic acids and esters was investigated. It was found, that appropriate mixtures of Br-TMS and trimethyl phosphite or triethyl phosphite were effective reagents for phosphorylation of various aldimines, obtained from aromatic and heteroaromatic aldehydes. Products of these reactions were corresponding aminophosphonic acids, or corresponding dialkyl or monoalkyl esters, respectively.
