The spatial free vibrations of multi-span suspension bridges arę analyticaliy approached in two ways in which the horizontal cable displacements are being neglected or taken into account. In the both cases the differential equations of coupled bridge vibrations are presented and discussed. The Ritz approximate method is used to solve the free yibration problem. Natural frequencies and modes of the exemplary bridge are calculated and the problem of how the horizontal cable displacements affect the bridge vibrations is considered.
