Content available Underwater Noises of Open-Circuit Scuba Diver
EN
The features of respiratory noises and noises of fins for open-circuit scuba divers, indicating a multipole character of noises emission, are specified in cameral conditions. It demonstrates a possibility to detect low-frequency components of noises of fins with pressure gradient sensor in near field. A possibility of estimating the respiratory rate of an open-circuit scuba diver is demonstrated at distances up to 100 m in real sea. It gives an opportunity of estimating the bearing (time delay in a pair of hydrophones) for the open-circuit scuba diver by respiratory noises at distances up to 150 m in real sea. Thus, low-frequency underwater noises of open-circuit scuba divers may be successfully applied to monitor the safety of diving and to prevent waterside intrusion by trespassers.

In mines, rescue operations are often performed in excavations filled with smoke and with the use of breathing apparatus. Such excavations may only be entered when rescue lines are used, while any activities connected with rescue line fastening should be performed quickly and effectively to avoid the separation of the rescue team. In 2018, tests involving rescue lines were performed at the Bytom – Zabrze District Mine Rescue Station. The objective of the tests was to determine the time required to fasten and detach such lines and to determine how rescue teams move in the W-70 breathing apparatus both in test chamber excavations filled with smoke and in such excavations without smoke. Three rescue teams from three mines participated in the tests. Three types of rescue lines were used: a reflective one with a length of 10 m, of GL087 Protekt type with a length of 8.5 m, and a line with fastening hooks 5.5 m long. During the tests, the rescuers performed exercises in three stages, in different and specific places of the test chamber. All stages involved the time required to perform exercises by individual rescue teams. The tests revealed that each line was successful in its purpose. At any stage rescue teams did not separate and the line did not detach accidentally. Nevertheless, all exercise stages were completed the fastest with a 5.5 m rescue line with fastening hooks.

The article presents the results of tests of air coolers utilizing ice and Dräger cooling cartridges, working in the W-70 breathing apparatus (using the SAT-2M device by Faser) and in the Dräger BG-4 plus breathing apparatus. Since the selection of a proper cooler for the breathing apparatus, and the knowledge of the working time of the cooler, depending on the temperature in the mine heading, are significant problems, tests have been carried out to determine the hours worked by a single rescue officer (related to the operation time of the air coolers) depending on the temperature at the workplace. The test was carried out during a rescue drill in the OSRG Bytom - Zabrze testing chamber equipped with a specialized room room - a heat zone. During the test, the operation of the Dräger breathing apparatus was controlled every 15 minutes by opening the coolers and measuring temperaturę using a Dräger USF 9000 thermal imaging camera, starting with the initial state of -120C and ending with 200C, where the operation of the cooler ended. The ice melting process was similarly controlled during the test, i.e. by opening the coolers every 15 minutes, making sure that the that did not pour out, or that the remaining ice did not fall out. Despite the varied mass and size of the ice in the W-70 and BG-4 plus breathing apparatus, very good results of cooling time were obtained for inhaled air, which ranged from 128 to 225 minutes - depending on the temperature setting. The operating time of the Dräger cooling cartridge was shorter - results from 90 to 120 minutes were obtained, which pointed to better properties of the cooler containing ice.

The article presents the course of exercises, which aim was to develop rescue techniques on water basin (stagnant water) in situation where some person is threatened by drowning and firefighters who came first don't have appropriate equipment. The presented exercises were made with the use of appliances, that are the basic equipment of every fire engine, which is used at first stage of rescue actions.
