Artykuł porusza tematykę związaną z pojęciami pogranicze i peryferie w odniesieniu do Polski Wschodniej w aspekcie infrastruktury transportowej. Położenie geograficzne, przyjazne ukształtowanie terenu pograniczy na wschodzie, jak również nie tak duża odległość do rdzenia kraju, którym można określić Warszawę, powinny stanowić wartość dodaną tego obszaru. Pomimo tego zdecydowanie gorzej jest się dostać z Warszawy na obszar pogranicza, aniżeli do wielu innych miast wojewódzkich (m.in. Poznań, Wrocław, Katowice), które niejednokrotnie są bardziej oddalone. Wiąże się to z niską dostępnością komunikacyjną regionu pogranicza, która jest związana z mała liczbą dróg najwyższej klasy technicznej na wschód do linii Wisły. Opisano cechy pogranicza oraz peryferii i pokrótce przeanalizowano sytuację tego konkretnego regionu. Problemem do rozstrzygnięcia pozostaje, czy pogranicze Polski Wschodniej można utożsamiać jedynie z peryferiami państwa. Czy też może występują czynniki stanowiące o semi-peryferyjności niektórych obszarów, a postulowane inwestycje infrastrukturalne staną się czynnikami rozwoju i zmiany podejścia do przygranicza.

The article discusses the issues related to the definitions of borderland and the periphery in relation to the Polish Eastern in terms of transport infrastructure. Geographic location, friendly terrain shape in the east, as well as not so great distance to the core of the country, i.e. to Warsaw, should provide added value in this area. Despite this, much worse is to get from Warsaw to the borderland area, than to many other bigger cities (eg. Poznan, Wroclaw, Katowice), which often are more distant. This is related to the low transportation accessibility in borderland area, which is associated with a small number of roads of first-class technical, east of the line of the Vistula. Characteristics of the borderland and periphery was described, and a brief analysis of the situation of a particular region was done. The problem to be resolved is whether the Polish eastern borderland area can be identified only as the periphery of the state. Or maybe there are factors determining not only peripheral character of this areas, and postulated infrastructure investments, will become factors of development and change in the approach to the borderland area.

Pogranicza to regiony wielowymiarowe. Promocja takiego terytorium ma na celu budowanie jego stabilnej marki na gruncie jednoznacznie identyfikowanych cech. Realizuje się ona w ramach modelu sieciowego. Optymalnie jest zespołem stałych i konsekwentnych działań w ramach różnorodnych kampanii. Jak pokazuje przykład pogranicza Podlasia, wartość jednostki terytorialnej rośnie, jeżeli nie tylko spełnia ona określone oczekiwania swojego odbiorcy, ale jest również jako marka polecana innym.

Borderline is a multi-dimensional regions. The target of promotion of such territory is building its brand on the basis of stable clearly identifiable characteristics. It is realized in the network model. Optimally it is a unit of regular and consistent action in the different campaigns. As seen in the borderline Podlasie territorial unit value increases if not only meets the certain expectations of their customers, but as a brand recommended others.
