An inventory of opencast mining excavations recultivated in the form of water reservoirs as an example of activities increasing the retention potential of the natural environment: a case study from Poland

The article presents examples of the employment of various geodetic measuring tools used for a detailed inventory of lake basins and shorelines. The measurement and analysis covered three post-mining open pit excavations recultivated as water reservoirs: two in Krakow (Bagry Wielkie and Bagry Małe) and one in Piaseczno (Piaseczno Sulphur Mine). Attention was paid to the factors that reduce the accuracy of the inventory of some flooded post-mining excavations, which determine the degree of usefulness of the morphometric data set for later analyses. According to available estimates, only about one-third of all water reservoirs in Poland have detailed geodetic documentation in the form of bathymetric maps. This documentation usually does not include water reservoirs of anthropogenic origin formed after the flooding of post-mining excavations (mines: sand, gravel, clay, limestone, sulphur, aggregates, etc.). The authors suggest the introduction of a document known as a reservoir documentation card and the creation of a database covering all anthropogenic water reservoirs. Considering the water deficit in Poland, it may be necessary to develop a detailed database of water resources in the short term.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest błękitna infrastruktura rozpatrywana w kontekście planowania i realizowania działań zmierzających do łagodzenia zmian klimatu oraz zapobiegania ich skutkom w metropolitalnych miastach poprzemysłowych. Badania obejmują działania podejmowane w ostatnich latach w miastach należących do rdzenia Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowskiej Metropolii. Celem badań jest identyfikacja i ocena planowanych, a także zrealizowanych działań adaptujących przestrzeń miejską do zmian klimatu w obszarze zrównoważonej gospodarki wodnej.

The subject of the paper is blue infrastructure considered in the context of planning and implementing activities aimed at mitigating climate change and preventing its effects in post-industrial metropolitan cities. The research covers activities undertaken in recent years in cities belonging to the core of the Metropolis GZM. The aim of the study is to identify and evaluate planned and implemented actions in the field of sustainable water management that adapt urban space to climate change.

The article provides an overview of spatial and legal solutions related to the issue of water management in cities in the context of climate change. The aim of the research is to identify the main differences between the traditional and integrated approaches to water-related infrastructure based on case studies of European Cities at different scales. Gathering, ordering and comparing adequate solutions will allow to establish guidelines for the development of Polish cities and point out directions for architects and urban planners designing urban spaces. The comparison of good examples with theory would make it possible to verify whether practise corresponds with theory, and whether it can actually - through the synergy of measures - bring new quality to urban areas.

W artykule dokonano przeglądu rozwiązań przestrzenno-prawnych związanych z problematyką gospodarki wodnej w miastach w kontekście zmian klimatycznych. Celem badań jest zidentyfikowanie głównych różnic między tradycyjnym i zintegrowanym podejściem do infrastruktury wodnej na podstawie studiów przypadków europejskich miast w różnej skali. Zebranie, uporządkowanie oraz porównanie odpowiednich rozwiązań pozwoli na wyznaczenie kierunków rozwoju polskich miast i wskazanie kierunków dla architektów, a także urbanistów projektujących przestrzenie miejskie. Porównanie dobrych przykładów z teorią pozwoliłoby zweryfikować, czy praktyka koresponduje z teorią i czy rzeczywiście - poprzez synergię działań - może przynieść nową jakość na obszarach miejskich.

The subject of the article is the blue infrastructure analyzed in the context of actions taken in connection with the need to adapt urban structures to climate change. This article presents a sample of the research limited to the rivers of London, excluding the River Thames. Based on the analysis of documents and literature on the subject as well as a case study, the study aims to identify and indicate the main directions of activities undertaken in the field of blue infrastructure, which serve the adaptation of rivers and riverside areas to climate change.
