Chemical transformation of chromed leather wastes into environmentally harmless fibrous biomass

Chemical transformation of leather waste into chromium free biomass has been investigated. The conversion was performed by extracting the toxic metal. The effects of several influential factors on the process have been studied using design of experiments. Optimal conditions of chromium extraction have been determined. The collagen fiber of the biomass obtained has been analyzed by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The chemical mechanism allowing this transformation has been suggested. The infrared analysis showed that the collagen fiber of the obtained biomass presents chemical composition similar to that of native collagen fiber of non-chromed leather. These results demonstrated the almost complete extraction of chromium from leather waste and the conversion of these latter into an environmentally harmless biomass.

W oparciu o badania własne procesu rozdrabniania słomy zbóż opracowano sposób określenia zapotrzebowania energii na proces rozdrabniania w zależności od rozmiaru granicznego uzyskanego produktu, wyznaczono krytyczne wartości prędkości liniowych noży młyna w procesie rozdrabniania swobodnego oraz pół skrępowanego. Przedstawiono analizę wpływu geometrii komory roboczej młyna oraz sposobu zamocowania zestawów nożowych na oczekiwaną wydajność młyna. Przedstawiono koncepcję rozwiązania młyna do rozdrabniania kostek słomy, koncepcję urobku i mielenia słomy składowanej w pryzmach, oraz koncepcję młyna do mielenia słomy luźnej.

Basing on self conducted study of grain straw comminution process, one managed to calculate the energy consumption for comminution process depending on procuct border size. Critical values of linear speed of the mill knives in the process of free and half- constrained comminution were defined. The influence of mill chamber geometry and the way of knife set fastening on estimated mill efficiency were defined. New conceptions were presented: the first - a mill for bales straw comminution, the second - a new conception of initial cutting and grinding of straw stockpiled in prisms and the third - a mill for loose straw grinding.
